I shot this doe towards the end of rifle season with my Marlin 45/70 @ 132 yds (ranged) ,she was quartering towards me and stopped just short of a brush line .I figured that would end any chance of seeing her again so I took the shot fairly sure as she was just in front of a large boulder I had previously ranged ,guess I got lucky twice . Once when she dropped ,and again when I saw where the bullet exited .My load was a NOE 350g FP GC over 24g 2400 w/ half grain of dacron BHN was 8 and average around 1475-90 .As the photos show I clipped ribs but got behind the shoulder (no meat loss) and the entry was where it was hoped for with no neck damage .Like I said I was lucky twice and I do not think the deer suffered either!

Edward, I used the Ranch Dog version of that bullet in my Marlin 1895 LTD-V 45/70 with 43 gr. of IMR-4198 and it has taken several bison, buffalo, with one shot kills. It also feeds like a hot knife though butter in the Marlin and excellent accuracy.

Good shooting! I am getting encouraged to buy a 45-70 gun.

Cambado not buy a 45-70 it will then make you want a 444 then a 35 Remington, then a 44-40, then a... well you get the idea addicting little suckers. My Maine blackbear had a meeting with a 45-70 and it did not go well for him. Edward that's fun now ain't it. Tom

Nice.
Have butchered deer shot at that angle with a 30-06 using Rem Core Locks where the entire side was bloodshot mush. Black bear too. I like the holes a 45-70 make. All but my first deer have been shot with my 45 caliber TC Hawkins cap lock. Round balls caused me to loose deer. 220 or 240 grain Maxi balls are a bit more power than the old 44-40 Winchester round. They work a lot better than the other Illinois option. Shotgun slugs.

Good job, my first CB deer was a similar shot (but closer) with that boolit. I don't like the angle but if it breaks bones and passes thru vitals the 45-70 puts meat in the freezer just about every time! Congrats and good eating!
