Thats not to out of line for that caliber. Personally I prefer the old CH Auto Champion Progressives which are a lot cheaper but do have a steeper/longer learning curve. I have both and the CH is probably twice as fast and just as accurate as the Star.

Apples and Oranges. The one on eBay that sold for $581 is a "Progressive" model which is 38 Special ONLY. The 44 Magnum Star is a "Universal" model which can load any pistol caliber as long as you have the appropriate shell plate and dies. Of course the Progressive had and indexer and a case feeder which helped it's value, but if it were a Universal it would have sold for more.

If you are interested in anything Star Machine Works reloaders Bruce is your guy. I have two vintage Stars (a progressive and a universal) and he gave me good feedback on restoration as well as manufactures replacement parts for them. A great resource.

Bruce, didn't realize you were on here thanks again for helping again.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't spend a lot of time over here, but I have been a member for quite a while.

They are very good machines, I have a universal, but I don't think it works any better or faster than my Dillon 550 and the parts are a whole lot more expensive.
