Got ahold of a group buy .312 150 PB mold and tried it in the Yugo SKS today.
Seemed loke it liked it (23gr IMR 4895) 1650fps at 25yrd open site group measured 1.5" vertically strung with a called flyer. Center was 3" low and Left 2". Might need to scope it to get true accuracy(stock sights are terrible. Boolit is flat nose with 1 lube groove and 4 crimp grooves. The .312 180 gr GC RN from lee shoots POA.

Nice going. The kicker for me would be if it still is accurate at 100 yds. Gianni

I don't see how a scope mounted to the cover could stay tight. Unless maybe you TIG welded the bases to the cover.

No matter how tight the base is to the cover there is still too much tolerance. I've hand-fitted a few of the covers that have the mount already installed. I took a bit of carefukl hand-filing on the legs of the cover to get a good fit. Worked OK for a while but loosened up rather quickly. A mount on the side of the reciever is the only way to go. There were a few Chinese that had a Soviet-style mount on the left side of the reciever, maybe called the "Paratrooper" model? Made for gulliable Americans I think but worked if you have the correct base to fit it.

TD, very true. I wanted something that would give me a good sight picture at 100 yrds for load work up. The original sights SUCK, but have to use them for the match. So, I want to mount the scope ,work the loads up, adjust sights, pull scope, and then shoot match. (It starts in 2 hours) load I came up with is c312-180gc boolit cast from W-W, water dropped, JPW, hornady ck, over 22gr imr4895. 1600 fps. 1" @ 25 yrds w/ scope, 8" @ 100 w/ open sites:drinks:

Was out yesterday with my SKS. Managed 4" at 100yds with 26 gr WC735 (5% faster than H335). Going to try 17.5 gr of 4227 today. Past experience suggests loads should be fairly accurate. Would be helpful if I could put my 22 year old eyes back in but alas I am stuck with open sights and less than stellar eyes.

Let us know more about your scope set up. Thinking of going that way myself. I know the set up isn't the best but likely better than what i am doing with my open sights.

Take Care

Got it off of evil bay,($20.00 shipped to door in 3 days)it has 2 u shaped channels welded upside down onto the receiver cover and then a 1 piece base screwed to them. It says to file to fit, but I push really hard and the pin will push through, nice n tight. The forward screw came loose(locktight before going out). Makes it nice at 50 yrds to take the eyes variable out of the load work up. Didn't do to bad on 5/5 militery match with open sights (255/400 possible). At least I new the load was a good one. Did a trigger job on it(sks) yesterday. maybe the next match will be better. Everyone at the match was impressed with the groups considering(open sights, cast boolits).

my son gave me a set of tech sights for my Norinco SKS for Xmas.I had already gone the scope mount on an earlier SKS and didn't like it.

the tech sights are about as good as it gets for my 55 YO eyes. Also installed a thinner front sight blade.

all in all I'm satisfied.
