do I have to size the bullet for a muzzleloader rifle?

my short sojourn into conicals says ...the answer is YES.

I now shoot RB exclusively in muzzleloaders.

My experience has been that you do not. But that was with my mold and my rifle. Your results may be entirely different.

If you are shooting a skirted bullet like a Minie ball, then no. It is designed to be undersized and the skirt obdurates (expands) into the rifling when fired. Minie moulds should be designed to be undersized.

If you are shooting a solid based conical, then maybe. It depends on the bullet design.

If you're shooting round balls, then no. Round balls are undersized and require a patch of a specific thickness to make up the difference.

And if you are using pure lead. No one said anything about that. If you get them too hard they will be tough to get down the bore. Been there and tried it!!!!!!!
