I'm sitting here listening to the rain and doing a little pondering. I have a Savage 11 that I've pretty much built chambered in 223. If I can find a 300 blackout barrel with a close profile would the 300 work thru the mag well/ feed lips ok

Seems to me like it should.

This would not be for suppressed or subsonic. My two 30 cal molds are 311041 and 311008

Whats y'all's thoughts?

I'm not sure about a bolt action but in a AR they do as long as the ribs in the mag are paid attention to when seating odd shaped bullets.

I'm contemplating the same project, so I would be interested to hear any comments from those with experience with this platform.

I have a 300 whisper and 223 switch barrel on a remington 700 receiver. Or rather I have a spare 223 brrel because it has never been on the rifle. The 300 sometimes has feed problems and doesn't want to nose into the chamber. Instead it hits the breech face high and wide. I think the magazine length for and aft is a bit long and the rim is dropping onto the case necks and thus feeding at a too high angle. The rifle started as a 223 and worked great. It should still work great with 223.

I have 3 bolt heads for my 111 and also 2 differant magazines. For the 300 barrel on mine I never tried it with a mag as I shoot it single shot.

I've been thinking for some time about getting a 308 bolt face head for mine. Just haven't done it yet. I suspect the 308 mag box would work with all 308 based cartridges but not sure about say 22-250 or 250 savage.

I was just on midway and saw a 250 savage barrel in factory contour that would match what I've got. Sounds interesting but I just don't need it.

The reason the blackout sounded interesting is I felt it would work with just a barrel swap as long as the contour was the same. I also felt I could push 311041 at about what I do in my 30-30 roughly 1700 fps.

Its still raining here!!

approaching 8 inches here and steady down it comes! I got my 300BO, 8 inch twist from Shaw and asked for the same profile as my 7rem mag profile and I gave 179.00 for it. If you can get a shaw barrel from a retailer you can get it cheaper then going thru their shop.I am happy, but would rather use a retailer next barrel if again.

You can buy a Ruger American in 300 BO for under $400. They are nice.
For cast bullets. I'd prefer a 7.62 WT with a 1:12" twist.

I couldn't find any retailers that had one. I emailed Shaw tonight about one in the same profile I have. The barrel on the gun is a Shaw in factory profile.

Its true gabby but I don't actually need another rifle. I may never go thru with this but if I do I'm only out the cost of the barrel and dies.

I'd say it should but the proof would be in the pudding.

I think that's possible. I got to a little over 1900 fps with a Lee 170gr and a RanchDog 165 gr. That was in a 16" Handi rifle. If I was getting a barrel, I'd get a 20" with a slower twist.

Heard back from Shaw today. Barrel would cost $261. I don't believe I want it that bad. I'll keep an eye out though.
