Kicking around the idea of picking up one of these molds for my old Moisin-Nagant, but wonder if anyone has any idea of the nose diameter?
My M-N has not been slugged [yeah, I know, sorry, lazy, no good such-and-such ], but will throw the Lee C312-185-1R all over the place if I size to .311". If I shoot as cast and just crimp on the gas check base first in a Lee push through .311 sizer, the boolit mics out at .312 with the check at .315. Then it shoots like a house afire.
Question is, would the 314299 nose diameter be a little too big for the lands to accept.? Any thoughts?

Until you actually slug the bore , you and I and everyone else will be simply guessing. My guess however is the the 314299 would probably be a good bullet for your application.

Really need to get an oversized soft lead slug tapped down your pre-lubed ( greased ) bore, then you'll know EXACTLY what you're dealing with.

Lead melter, My #314299 measures ~.303" on the nose, but it's at least 13yrs. old. However, I don't know what the current crop of #314299's measure since quality control may be iffy and cherries do wear. Btw, I use it in my Finn. Nagants and it is exceptionally accurate, but as Ben wrote, you'll still need to slug your bore.

If I could only have one mould for my .30 caliber milsurps, it would be this mould. It's shot well in each of the 5 or 6 Mosins I've owned as well as 3 or so No. 4 Enfields. (see avatar)I say get one and don't look back.

Lead melter, I have a 314299 made in 2000. It casts .303" X .314" with ww + 2 % tin. This is my favorite mould because of its accuracy in a number of .30 and .31 cal. rifles. I size boolits .310 for .30/06, .308, and my tight .30/40 Krag. My early .311" groove Argie 1891 is very accurate with .312" sizing, and the .303 British I bought the mould for prefers .314". It's the Crescent wrench of boolit moulds!

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll need to pony up the $50 to Midsouth.
