First kill with a home cast and first kill with my CVA Scout. I've killed with handloads before but not with cast. The boolit was the Lee 429-240 SWC, as cast, water quenched COWW over a moderate charge of 4227. The critter was a wild hog that weighed in at 150. At 25 yards the boolit penetrated the head, punched the heart and stopped under the hide behind the far shoulder. I'm pretty impressed with how the projectile stayed together. I didnt realize how hard this lead really is without getting brittle. I'l get some pics posted up soon. And I'll add that I'm really loving the CVA more now. I know my shot wasn't far but after walking around and going up and diwn a tree in a climber the Scout never felt like it was in the way.

Good job...

I have a scout in .357 that I have desperately tried to bloody this year and I have been unable to get a legal buck (I hunt in a quality deer management county that requires 4pts on one side) in front of me...this entire season. I have seen plenty of bucks...just none with 4 on one side. To make it worse, it has been doe days every day of the season and I have not seen a SINGLE doe...first time in more than 20yrs that I have gone this long without seeing a doe.

I am thinking that the Scout must be snake bit...

Thanks to all. I can see there are a number of ppl excited about their first. There's something very satisfying that happens when you work up a load and ultimately use it to make meat.

I am wanting one of the pistols in the worst way. 2 actually. To answer your question, no mine is a rifle. But i feel that i need a 357 and 44 pistol in the worst way. I cant decide which first but they're both on the short list.

Look at it this way, if you end up with just one in the end, one can load a 44 down to 38 SPL/357 level, but they can never load 38/357 up to 44 Mag.

This is true. I do however, load both and like both. I cant go wrong either way. It may come down to availability.

Good job, congrats! There are few things more satisfying than a first CB kill but every one of them from now on will be pretty awesome as well. Pretty soon you won't even bother with J-words.

Nice.....congrats on the first CB kill. I'm partial to the 44 cal as compared th the 38/357. I lost a little sleep on that decision as well. Might as well buy both and sell one off if it doesn't suit your needs
