I have a model 15-2 combat masterpiece (.38spl.) not sure how old, tight lockup and good shooter, 90% bluing left. (holster wear on tip of barrel and front edge of cylinder) does anyone know what it is worth approximately?

I recently(3 months ago) bought a 15-3 that sounds to be about the same condition as yours. I paid $375 for it. I considered it a very good buy at that price.

These models are utterly valueless and dangerous to fire. I will take it upon myself to dispose of it safely and lawfully if it is shipped F.O.B. to my residence at....... :-)

A great revolver. Most of what a handgun does best can be accomplished with a Model 15 Smith. S&W's K-frame and the 38 Special cartridge were made for one another, both literally and figuratively. I would be very happy to own one of these, and only the addition of aftermarket stocks would perfect its utility in my hands.

375-450 is what I've seen then go for recently. I'd not mind having another one--this is one of those guns that just has never managed to stick in my hands. I must have bought a half-dozen over the years, but something else has always come down the pike that I wanted more.

I recently saw one advertised for $400 locally. I just searched for the ad and could not find it so I am guessing it sold. Good revolver IMHO.

A LGS has a 15-3 listed in very good condition for $369.99. I have a Combat Masterpiece (pre Model 15 - DOB of 1955). Mine is about 95% + and IIRC, I paid around $350 for it . . . . perhaps a little less. I agree . . . they are an excellent handgun and I don't think it gets any better than a K frame for shooting. I didn't plan on buying my CM . . I went to look at a more vintage M & P 38 spell. with a 5" barrel - came home with both the M & P and the CM. If I hadn't have gotten the CM, I know I would have regretted it!

A dash 2 puts it in 1961-1967 territory.
As others have stated, it's a great gun. Essentially a model 10 with adjustable sights.
Based solely on the description, I would put that in the $350-$375 range. If it is in particularly good condition other than the bluing wear, (near perfect factory grips, no re-blue, mechanically correct) it might be closer to $400.

Now if you're worried about it being lonely, Today only = I can put it in my safe next to several other Smith & Wesson's for absolutely no cost to me..........:bigsmyl2:

Great firearm! I'd say the $375 ballpark seems pretty reasonable. I recently purchased a 15-1 in around 85% condition for $325,and with how well it shoots and fits my hand with magnas and a Tyler t grip, it won't be for sale by me anytime. It's a great companion to my fixed sight 10-6 heavy barrel.

I actually shot one for a season in a Bullseye league. It shot as good as the model 14s or anything else out there back in that day.

They arn't worth more than $100, NIB! OOPS that's about what I paid for my 15-2 NIB long ago. Great little guns. I carried my 2.5" for years when not carrying 1911. Mines pretty ugly from getting sweated on while carrying but still shoots X ring at 25yds.

In this day of the "bigger is better" mindset, many have overlooked the real value and usefulness of the Model 15. They are superb revolvers that are not only prime range guns but VERY useful in the field. Using a good cast wadcutter bullet at "full charge" they are terrific for edible small game as well as a really good defense load against feral dogs as well as two legged dogs. I gave my Model 15 to my son, but still have revolvers that work quite well with the full charge wadcutter.
