For those of you shooting H&R's rifles or such weighing around 6 to 7 pounds, how stout is the recoil on a full house load. The reason I ask is I am installing a front rib(aluminum scope rail) that lays on the reciever with 2 screws and continues front another 4 inches. I would prefer to only put I screw at front area but I don't want this rib to tear off. I have a pistol scope that is around 8 oz and maybe someday put one on that weighs around 11 or 12 oz. I have no idea how much recoil a maxi produces so you tell me. Are they easy, stout or vicious with full house loads?

I don't have the maximum chamber, but I do reload my 357mags pretty hot for the Handi using J-word bullets. Commercial cast are run with gas checks at a pretty good clip. I'd rate recoil of 38spl on par with 22lr, factory 357mag on par with 22mag, and my hot loads similar to 38 special. The gun is plenty accurate to 75 yards, and don't hesitate out to 100yds, but still knowing the limitations. 6-7# of weight, plus the scope makes the recoil on these pretty easy. I have a carbine length 44mag levergun that will wake the dead with recoil, the H&R is a dream compared to it. Happy Shooting!

The gun is in 357 maxium, my title is not clear about that. Yup, had a 44 mag carbine and recoil was very stoudt with heavy loads and if this gun recoils like that then I also need to epoxy mount at barrel(didn't want to do that so I can easily swap barrels)

Recoil of the 357 Max is pretty light, even with heavy bullets going quickly. Very comfortable to shoot.

I've got a Browning Low Wall in 357max and even with the heavier bullets it's quite mild to shoot. My gun doesn't weigh very much, it's pretty light.

I shoot the 357 Max in a T/C G2 12" with 180-200 gr cast and the recoil is very manageable. A truly enjoyable caliber to shoot. I shoot IHMSA silhouettes, so I need loads with some power.

The recoil of the 357 Max is something that has always amazed me. I have a TC pro hunter with a 18" MGM barrel. I shoot the NOE 360-180 (actual weight 187gr) 2000 fps and recoil is minimal.
In my opinion a marlin 30-30 has more recoil.

If you choose to stick with 158gr bullets the recoil is very minimal. Even when pushing them to 22-2400 fps.

I have a Handi rifle in 357 Max. I also have a contender in 357 Max along with a Dan Wesson Model 40 357 SM. I shoot a cast gas check that weighs out around 208 grains about the most. Recoil on the Handi rifle is pleasant and no problem. Even the Dan Wesson is easier to shoot than about any 44 mag I have shot.

Shooting a trapper talo reamed to max. 180 ssp w hot 1680 loads 205m or tula sr primers. Very pleasant to shoot, low recoil and a great deer rifle to carry. Having said that it is a stout load. I have a nikon 2x7 scope mounted in weaver rings on factory scope rail. Put all the screws in it that it is made for. Starting loads were over 2150 fps with good accuracy to 200 yds.
