My great uncle passed and it seems I'm the closest relation with a permit. The first is a high standard supermatic citation. Has a 6in? bull barrel. Serial number puts it aprox 1964... (same year his permit was issued). Condition is very good ,maybe 90-95%. One mag and no box or papers
Second is a smith 17-2. Serial number puts it aprox 1965. Shot very little, very light cyl ring, almost no wear around firing pin . It does have some pitting on the bottom of the trigger guard and very slight holster wear on last inch of barrel, other than that blueing is near perfect.
Both seem shot very little and just stored. I have looked on gunb rocker and both have asking prices around 1k each but not selling. The ones I do see with bids are around 500 each. I'm just looking for a fair price to pay my great aunt

They are both desirable handguns. Photos would help as condition is a big factor in the price.

There will be a series number on the High Standard that will help with the price. That is close to the time they made the change from slant grip to military grip. The military grip on the right is a 107 series and the bottom example is a 103 slant grip. If yours was made in 1964 it would likely be a Hamden made pistol and they are the most sought after.

I am thinking $600 may be a little high on the S&W if it is the plain jane. If it has the target stocks, trigger and sights then that is about right.
We definitely need more info on the HS. IIRC, it will be a slant grip. If the barrel is like the one pictured(tapered with weights) that affects the price.

I'll try and get pics soon as I don't have them here. The HS is a 104...looks like the one to the right in the photo. The smith is standard grip and trigger with wide adjustable sight. Thanks for the input

The 104 would be a slant grip. They were the last of the slant grips. There was a 5.5" barrel model and in very good condition it would be worth somewhere in the $700 range.

Gun store price would be way below $600.....I would put a few low reserve M-17's in your watch and see what they really bring. Gun store outright purchase price would be half of true selling price probably no more than $350 ish. I would say $450 - $500 ish to your great aunt not full blown retail and not wholesale price.

I was thinking big local gun store would give 500 for both and im thinking 800 would be fair for both.

I think you are $100 high for each. Unless you really like your aunt! That really is the issue in a family transaction, I will give more to a family member than to a stranger any day.

Purchasing the pair for $800 would be a decent deal in my area. Both are well worth adding to any cabinet/safe that doesn't have several examples of each already.

Yea I know , I have no problem low balling a Stanger but family makes it hard. I don't want to over pay but if I'm too light someone might make a stink. I settled on 800 for the pair. Thanks for all the info

As I understand it the most important thing to do is to get them in your possession before the state police knocks on her door and confiscates them. That has been happening to a lot of people in your state. I guess you will then register them in your name? If that has to be done.

Yea there going to be on my permit and I'll have to take his permit with death certificate to get his removed from system.

I think $800 is fair for both. You're doing her a favor by taking care of it and you're getting two sweet 22's.

Try some Hoppe's no 9 soaked 0000 steel wool lightly on the bottom of the trigger guard.
