Hey guys, I thought I would post this both as an oddity that I haven't run across before and also a heads up for those that use range pickup brass. My range has a policy where you are only supposed to take your own brass home, but they also ask that you clean up your station when you finish shooting. I tend to be a good member and also clean up the stations around me. You know, to keep the place looking nice. This also means that I carefully check all by brass as I deprime and go through my stages in processing it, normally to check the rifle brass that follows me home for nasty looking case heads. Besides finding a TON of "Perfecta" 223 cases with flash holes on the side of the primer pocket I also found these 9mm cases that I have never seen before. They look to have almost a belt on the inside base. I assume either to take up space requiring less powder for pressure or some means of preventing bullet setback? Either way could be a little scary for someone who runs near max pressures. Reminder for all of the cheap reloaders out there, don't forget to check that range pickup.

You'll also find Blazer and Federal .380 acp brass with an internal step to prevent bullet setback, but it's not as pronounced as the AmmoLoad brand of brass in 9x19.

It always pays to check your brass, since you'll find .45 acp brass with both large and small primers, as well as 10mm with both large and small primers. And then there's the dreaded Berdan primed brass that gums up the works as well....

Hope this helps.

I have seen both of those before. I separate them out when I find them.
Fortunately for me, I never use max loads for anything without checking cases. I have loaded some of those using my light blasting load and haven't noticed any significant difference. I wouldn't want to use those for max loads without a good workup with my chrono.

And those with that step/insert, which I have found are also magnetic.

Thanks for posting this!

I have some of these in some range brass I bought
and they are going right into the scrap can!

I've found a lot of those, not the same brand, not an insert. Not a problem unless you use heavy boolits that won't seat deep enough. Case head is also slightly dished but they go bang. I actually prefer the straight wall case, doesn't swage the base of cast.

Probably for heavy bullet loads. My bet is that they were loaded with
147 gr bullets and needed that to keep from bulging the cases. Can't
see anything wrong with using them.
