Had a guy tell me today you could buy interchangeable barrels for a model 88. Said you could change to rifle...243-30 30 ect.
Is this true? cant find any online. Would like to find a kid caliber...22-250 something like that.

No longer true.

When H&R was a viable concern (today, they're history), they would fit an extra (rifle) barrel to only certain receivers (steel/SB-2's ), asking for the SN to confirm that it isn't a (cast iron/SB-1) shotgun or muzzleloader receiver.

H&R stopped that program about 2 years ago, and today Remington has suspended all H&R/NEF production.

Let me save you some potential trouble on this. The model 88 is an older version and was not made to handle high pressure rounds. If you were to put a243 barrel on that receiver and shoot it, somewhere down the line you would most likely experience a catastrophic failure of that receiver. Some of the lower pressure rounds might be ok, but I would still be very careful in progressing

Thanks again. We will not be going down that road. I will find another youth rifle.

The 88 is a cast iron receiver. H&R did fit the 45-70, 30-30, 22 Hornet, 22 Jet, 357 mag, and 44 Mag. to the cast iron receivers. Loading these too hot could ruin a receiver. My friend peened the firing pin hole shut with the primers in a 30-30.
