I have a Williams receiver on the rear and regular front sight on the ramp. With the Williams sight raised to the top of it's adjustment, I still am 3 inches low at 100 yards. The sight in the ramp is the shortest that there is. What I need is a longer screw for the elevation adjustment. Has anyone had this problem? My load is 20 grains of 4198 under a 170grain gas check. Is the ramp removable?

Maybe a higher front sight

you need a shorter front sight so shoot higher.

Vern is your front sight a bead sight or a blade sight?

You could install a blade sight and maybe file it down and get the three inches.

I solved filing down the front side on my previous Henry. As far as I remember filing down 1 mm on the front is equal to rising 3 mm on the rear. Before filing the front blade I ended alla threads on the rear peep x-sight. They also sells a taller rear peep

I have been thinking, perhaps I could file my present sight down. It has a gold bead but I bet if I filed that off it would give me what I need.

How about another grain or two of powder?

Increase the powder charge or scope it.
Might not see those great groupings you now see. But at least be able to hit those paper bullseyes at 75 or 100. If you get the chance to buy powder. Buy AA-2230 its a better choice of powder for use in your rifle.

I just talked with the Williams rep. I have the 5D sight and there is no hope for that. If I had the Fool Proof sight I could get a longer elevation screw. I think I will try 10 rounds near maximum and see if that helps before I try anything else.

I've got a 94 with the Williams sight and had to actually add a taller front sight to get it to sight in at 100. I use a 0.4-something front sight, because the 0.35 was too short. The shortest Win 94 front sight is 0.290 I believe. If you have the 0.29 and you are still low I think the comments above on too light a load make sense.

I believe the rule is "Move the rear sight in the direction that you want the bullet to go." For the front sight the opposite is true, "Move the front sight opposite of the direction that you want the bullet to impact." Correct me if I am in error.

Front sight chases impact. Rear sight move in direction you want the impact to go.

I had that same problem, OP, and there wasn't any good answer................except for my TIG welder.

I shoot a win 94 with 180 fp pb boolits at around 1300 fps for silhouette matches. The williams rear would not go high enough and the front ramp looks to be soldered onto the barrel and I wanted to use a Lee Shaver front sight, which is somewhat tall.

I cut a chunk of scrap aluminum to the same thickness and width as the rear sight base and then ground the finish off the edges of the base. I tig welded them together and then drilled new holes in the extended part of the base. This added the height I needed; actually a bit too much as I am not at the bottom of the adjustment.
