Laser Cast BOOLITS Melted down how much pure lead To add?

I had some Laser Cast Boolits that I melted down since I could not hit a darn barn with them lol. And as we all know or so I have read is that they are a very hard bullet which might be some of the problem plus they were a wee bit undersize for my Marlin.

After I melted it down and put it into ingots I could tell it was a very hard alloy as well as brittle.


So the HUGE ? is how much pure lead would I add to the melt to make into a good BOOLIT?

This will be for .357 Mag with gas checks as well as .44 Mag with Gas Checks. And due to Marlintitus maybe a 45-70 as well by RANCH DOG. :)

One more lol. Does anyone know of a good oversize mould with a Gas Check at about .360 and 180Gr

I have done the same, try two parts of pure to one part of blazer blast.

I think I would go at least 50/50. You will still probably get an 11-12 bhn boolit at that ratio.

There were some great .360/180gr Group Buys. Sounds like you need one. Probably doesn't help you much, but keep an eye out for another.

I'd mix up a small quantity of pure with your ingot - try either 50/50 or 2to1 and keep adding pure until you can easily mark it with your fingernail. No need for hard bullets if you're putting a gc on it and be below 2000fps - just a waste of alloy.

Easy answer...

Start with 50/50. If that's still too hard, add 1 lb of pb per 2 lb of 50/50 for 2-1. :mrgreen:

when i melted down a bunch of thhese i mixed them into wws about 7to1

Well I mixed them 3 to 1 and I can barely put my finger nail in them lol. At any rate I will give them a shot. :) Thank You everyone.

I guess there is no real science to it when you start adding this to that without a known start. But to be honest if they hit where I want them I would not care how hard they are lol. As I feel that for hunting a softer lead BOOLIT is better than a hard one. But then again I could be very wrong lol.
