I would like to purchase a CVA V2 nitride in 54 cal. for my deer stand sittings or a 45 cal no doubt would be just dandy for those paper targets. "Um feeling kind'a slighted!! Yes I am y'll." Why is it inline shooters don't have a choice of calibers like those Ol' mossy covered traditionalist do? :?

I'd venture to guess because most use sabots, and there isn't much to choose from outside of .44 and .45 caliber, though there are a few choices in .475/.480 and .50 cal. That is unless you used cast bullets. There is a little bit to choose from in full bore projectiles but not that much. But then why did .50 cal initially become the go-to caliber in the first place?

If you have an inline now maybe you could get an additional barrel or have it lined assuming it's large enough to handle a .54 cal (about 15/16").

if you want a cal of your choise then have smokeless muzzleloaders inc. build you one to the cal and twist of your choise. all you need is a used H and R shotgun action and they will put a barrel on it for you with a great breech plug. their are many many after market stocks for the H and R. they also put scope mounts on the barrel for you. they did this for me as i had them built one for my son on a 10 gauge action. they used a douglas barrel. my son went with a synthetic stock that look tacticle. i had a old but rebuilt tv screen weaver 9 power scope rebuilt and put that on their. its a shooter and a tackdriver. you amy even supply your own barrel if they let you. i thought about doing it with a 45 cal 1/18 twist barrel to shoot 1000 yard targets and 500 grain pp bullets. a 58 cal round ball inline would really be a deer getter as well as elk or antelope. look at their web site and call them.

I can't remember at this time but back about 5 or 10 years ago they made a IIRC 53 cal inline for elk hunting out west. Now, I don't know what the actual caliber was, but that is what they called it. If you get into varmint huntiing from Pdogs to yotes you could always try the .30 cal accelerator sabot in the 30 cal MZLDR. If you had one with a fast twist and use 30 to 60 gr of powder and a Lyman or Lee 22 boolit you could start hunting yotes @ a couple of hundred yards.

Johnson1942: I did take your advice and bumped around on the net some yesterday. I was surprised to see there are quite a few makers of inline B/P weaponry. Some pretty nice rifles no doubt about that. Here's one of those makers that I was impressed with after browsing his site:

that site doesnt work on my computer. you are right about inlines in fast twist cals. some are very expensive some not so. this past year i have been working now and then with twi shooters for back east of me. they have modern bolt actions made with 45 cal 1/18 twist barrels on them. they were useing a special copper plated hollow base bullet to win matches at 500 yards with them but wanted to go to paperpatching so they sent me the details of the weight of the bullet they wanted and i drew up a shope and length for them to make a mold from. i also taught them paperpatching the single wrap chase way and the last time i heard they were both winning every match they entered. if this is the type of muzzle loading you want to get into it is fun and the accracy can be better than a 45 cal cartridge rifle. they used black horn 209 and i think large rife magnum primers. smokeless muzzle loaders can built a gun off of one of those break action thompson center pistol rifle combo actions. reloader 7 would be a good choise for powder in a smokeless muzzle loader also. its out their, just go after it.

@OnHoPr: I'm quite curious about atypical sabot calibers for my .50 cal, but also for a smaller cal. Who is this company you speak of?

Its to bad CVA doesn't offer a change out of B/P barrels & calibers for at least one of their inline b/p models. Doing so surly would cause a whole lot of commotion in the boss's office at T/C & Traditions.

Don't know the actual company, but here are a few links about them. You may be able to PP up to the 32 cal.

CVA Apex can be bought in 45 and 50cal, along with rimfire and centerfire barrels.

CVA Apex. Would be a dandy rifle for me if its barrel came in 54 cal. But it doesn't.
