Will as always happens I lost the little detent ball in the Savage Bolt Head. Can someone tell what size bearing would work?

I don't know about a bearing. The last time I lost one I ordered a new one from Brownells.

When I lost the one from my Axis .223, I just ordered three from Savage. That way when I do the Bone Headed move again, I have spares ...... :?

Its a 1/8" .125 ball bearing. Readily available from any bearing supply outlet . They would carry them as an open stock item. If you do not have a outlet that sells bearing for trucks, trailers and industry close to you then you can chase them down from Savage or any gun parts supplier. You just pay more for them as a gun part.

Try a bicycle repair shop. They should have the smaller bearings.

I have two Savages, both had ordinary extraction until I exchanged the standard 3.15mm ball bearings for 3.5mm ball bearings in the detent for the extractor. The difference to me was the throw from the ejection. Before the cases were thrown some distance, impressive but annoying when you had to find them. After, the cases eject out neatly about 2 feet to my right. All in the same place.
Best 30 cents I spent on my Savages.

Don't know if you have found that yet but any full size Ace hardware store will have those ball bearings in any size you want. I have seen them at other hardware stores also so they are a fairly common item, they normally are just listed as "steel balls" or hardened steel balls" at hardware stores and will be found in the same area as roll pins and such. They really are easy to find but it seems most folks are surprised they are such a common hardware store item and just don't bother to check.

Thanks everyone, think I am good now. Then try the ACE hardware near me, they do not carry anything that small.
