Looking for another project... Thought about a Lee Enfield 5.56 conversion but it's probably more involved than I want to try... at this time. :)

I was thinking a 7.62x39 conversion would be easier and help build my WESCOG knowledge.

I see two routes I could take...

1. Buy a bubba'd No4 then cut the chamber down and so forth like this guy did.

I like the way he did the magazine insert. I've seen demilled mags for sale at reasonable prices.

2. Buy a Ishapor 2A and add a .308 to 7.62x39 chamber adapter. http://www.mcace.com/adapters.htm Scroll down page. I'm a little concerned about squeezing a .311 bullet down a .308 bore tho.

I'm open to suggestions. Especially from anyone has done a conversion.

Which ever route I go the gun will end up more or less like a jungle carbine.

Thanks but that conversion was discontinued in 2012.

Don't know about converting a Lee-Enfield rifle to 7.62x39, but aware of a fellow range member who'd put a .303 P14 Eddystone barrel on a 95 Chile small ring action. Guy was a machinist by trade, who'd cut off most of the the original threads of the .303 Eddystone barrel and rethreaded the barrel for the small ring mauser action. Of course, he rechambered the barrel. Lot I do not know about what he did, but am aware, he was happy with accuracy of the rifle when test firing the rifle using cheapo 7.62x39 ammo.

I have a SIA 45 acp conversion on No 4 - for 7.62x39 I have a Mauser conversion that uses WASR Magazines.

Back in the late 80's or early 90's when the first of the 7.62X39 and 7.62X25 ammo was pouring into the country quite a few conversions of Lee Enfields were done here. Bit of work in them but if you can do it yourself it's not too bad.

I have one I just bought from a deceased estate. It uses the standard bolt head, no silver soldered collars, and the ejector is the standard No4 stud in the side of the action. It is not the most positive ejection. The action must be 'brisk' for it to function. The mag is a 'mysterious' double stack mag that has been hot glued and siliconed into the existing No4 mag. It works, but is only 5 rounds.
I have a AR15 mag in 7.62 x 39, and want to do another No4 mag with that, so I have a 10 round mag.
The barrel is done the same as the youtube video, set back several turns. I want to shorten the barrel to 16.5 inches to make it more useable as a truck rifle.
I am keen to sort the ejection issue, and may find a local armourer to sort this for me.

You will like the CZ. Mine shoots lead and JBs. It is a yote hammer, and a near perfict eastern US white tail rifle. Enjoy

Picked it up a couple days ago... wasn't expecting it till after Christmas. Cool!

Ordered receiver peep sight from New England Custom Gun Works.

chrispy,
Yes it is... I installed it on the rifle only to find the stock front sight to be too short! Had to make another order for taller front sight. Wish they would have mentioned that in the peep sight description. Oh well... what's another $5.75 for shipping...

flint45,
I think it's going to be one of my favorites... Right up there with my No5 "Jungle Carbine" clones. I like me a little carbine action!

I got the sights roughed in yesterday, bore sighted... the old fashion way with the Mk1 eyeball and shot 20 rounds in the process... Front sight took some work getting it to fit the CZ dove tale mount then filing it down to the proper height. In and out of the shop, shoot 5 rounds, file a little more, wait for rain to stop, shoot 5 more rounds....

The sight radius with stock rear sight was only 13". Now with the receiver mounted peep sight it's 21.5"... More better.

Need to get a good sling on it and take it out to the quarry and really wring it out.

Peeler cores...
After they peel veneer from a log to make plywood the cores are left. 4" - 7" dia cores x 9' long... Excellent firewood. Beats falling, skidding and bucking trees!

Yep, I was gonna ask about the cleanest firewood pile I've ever seen. Tbx-4 beat me too it. Frank
