I am receiving mixed messages about this. One side says they will be fine, as the 375s chamber the 38/55s with no problem. The other side of the argument says that they will chamber, but the case cannot expand properly as it is reaching too far forward and this causes extra pressure. I tend to believe the more cautious approach. How do you guys feel about this?

375 Win ammo and brass is as rare as rocking horse poop here, but 38/55 stuff is everywhere.

I feel that I would be better off sripping the rounds with my good ol' kinetic hammer, trimming and then reloading them.

Dang! Every rifle I own I have at least 200+ cases for (most list in the thousands), but for the one which I want to play with I only have 40 factory rounds.

Look at it this way. The 375 is a high pressure round above 45,000 CUP. The 38-55 barely rates 28,000 CUP. Now what do you think?

That's what my old grandpa used to say.

No doubt it will be safe enough, given the above. I suppose I should try one and see how much case expansion I am getting.

they will be fine with cast though.

Mick;
Win and Rem have standardized the case family, .25-35, .30-30, .32-40, .32sp, .38-55 and .375 all use the same length basic case now.
I understand this was done 3-4 years ago to reduce costs.
You should have no problems with it.

Considering the short factory brass I've been seeing lately and the pressures of factory .38-55 ammo, I'd give it a try.

You could always make a chamber cast and see what length chamber you really have./beagle

Moodyholler, that's right neighbourly of you, but I live in Australia and with the way things have been since 9/11, Customs would have kittens. My friend who is a gun dealer had trouble getting a Stoney Point tool through as it had a 'bullet' in it. He politely explained that it was a precision gauge and not a case (and that it has a huge hole in the bottom of the 'case.' What a pain.

Thanks anyway amigo.
