New member with a primer question. I am a long time handloader but to date the largest pistol case I have worked with is the .45 Colt with bullets up to 330 gr. I now have a new Ruger in .480 and 355 gr. WFN's available. I have always found Fed. 150's to be the most accurate for me and would like to continue to use them. The powders available are; Unique, Universal Clays, HS-6, 2400, AA#5, H-4227 and H-110.
Any and all input greatly appreciated. I do have WLP's available if that is best.

Thanks

I've shot 1000's of rounds through the 480. I've used Fed 150's and CCI 300's for all powders except H-110, and solely use CCI 350's for H-110.

Can't help on loads for 355's as for some reason that seemed to be no mans land for me. I worked with 275-320 gr cast and found Unique to provide outstanding accuracy @ ~1000 fps, and for 390-410 gr found 21 gr of H-110 to be the magic setting.

I haven't been able to get Unique for years and just got 32#'s of Universal Clays, so will be doing some load work :D

I use WLP's for all my large pistol primer cases, no worries.

The .480 might be the dividing line to mag primers with h110/296. All other powders will be fine with the 150.
The only difference you will see is at the target when the 155 might be more accurate.
Testing is always in order.
I don't have a .480 but have the .475 and the 155 is more accurate but the 150 lit all loads off. There is a time to switch.

The quick replies are much appreciated! I thought they would be good to go but with the greater case volume was a little concerned and will use the WLP's for the H-110 loads. Very helpful to get input from those that "have been there and done that"...
Again my thanks and not that any of you need info on the .480 but will post back what I find just to add to the knowledge base as it were.

I would say with H110 and 296, go to the mag primer. All other powders will not need it. WLP should work too. They seem hotter then standard but not full mags. Great primers.
