This afternoon I cast some bullets from a 22 caliber 55 gr Bator bullet mold. I would like to load this in a 221 Fireball with target velocity about 1500 fps.

Any suggestions on powder and load.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I know I can subscribe to this thread without making a comment; but, then it wouldn't get a bump.

Well I'm shooting that bullet in .223 just below 1400 fps with Red Dot, and no gas checks.

Red Dot 6.6 1682 to 8.5 2022 fps

6.5 grs of Red Dot will get you in the 1800 fps area, and will shoot well also.

If it's any help, I would hazard to guess the Fireball might be able to get up to 900 fps with a full charge of Trail Boss.
In one of my .223rem's I'm getting 1165fps with 4.0gr of Trail Boss using 55gr j-words. I need to start casting with the Bator sometime, probably going to use the same charge rate.

For the Fireball the Lyman 46th Edition has a 50gr cast listed with a 10 1/2" barrel:
Red Dot 2.5gr @ 1015fps to 4.5gr @ 1440fps
Unique 3.5gr @1110fps to 6.0gr @ 1755fps
and several other powders are listed with various velocities.

It's in all the load data books. Plinking loads. that is where I got all my Bator and 223 load data.

I shoot that instead of 22LR's today.

I would suggest 10 gr. of 4198 and see how it shoots without paying too much attention to velocity. You didn't say what you are shooting but the muzzle velocity should be about 1700 fps in a barrel over 18". The other loads are also good but in order to avoid double charges, a charge of a little more volume might be a little safer until you learn more of what you like. I am using a charge of RE-7 in my 222 for that reason even though a Bullseye charge shoots a little better.
