Guys,
Looking to sell or trade off my python for an enclosed cargo trailer.
Wondering where these guns are, pricewise nowadays.
It's a 1976 production gun in immaculate condition. it has been fired but doesn't show any wear.
I bought it used, without a box.

If you had the box it would be a $2000 gun. No box, $1200-1600, depending upon condition.

If I were you I would post that picture on the colt forum and ask the same question.

It's worth $2,000.00, I've been getting gunsamerica listings every day for years, the Pythons list for $2,000 to $3,000.00.

you can also follow the sale of Pythons on gunbroker to get an idea of what they are going for.

In this part of the country, even without box/documents, $2000 would be around the bottom end of the price range for a really clean Python but it's gotten kinda crazy around here, too. Not too long ago, I was offered $800 for my wife's 4" Diamondback (factory refinished) and, last week, I saw an early M29 Smith (Pre-Bangor Punta, 6 1/2" "Dirty Harry Special") that appeared to have been shot quite a bit (but well cared for) go for $1600.

Gun people are sometimes a bit nutsy..[smilie=1: Colt guys are apparently bat guano crazy. I am ever so grateful I don't care for Pythons.

It looks like a nice example you have there Dan, I hope you get a bundle for it.

Mine wasn't shiny nor that barrel length . . . I had a 1976 (IIRC) - blued 4" - 99% - no box and with original grips. I felt it was time to "go" so I consigned it with a local gun shop that I've purchased a number of handguns from - they have a good reputation and have been around for probably over 70 years. We decided to list it at $2,000 and they put it on their website list. It was gone in four days. That was this past summer - lower MI.

Pythons are selling for insane prices. If you can sell it on an auction website with a high reserve you will get the most money for it. I would list it with a reserve in excess of $1500 and make the buyer pay all the fees. It will sell for more than you think.

Colt collectors are snatching up everything that has a pony stamped on it and they are paying top dollar for good examples.

List it with a start bid for $2,000 on an auction sight. Buyer pays shipping.

I would like to pay you $1500 plus shipping but in reality, I would be taking at least $500 from you. Its x-mas and some wives know their hubby would love a nice looking python. It will sell for 2K or more on gun broker. The blued 4 or 6 in. bring the starter prices, more for nickel and even more for stainless.

I never really got into Pythons, but my cousins uncle had a couple of .22 Diamondbacks 4" and 6" that he let us kids shoot quite a bit. I'd like to have one now, but I haven't seen any for under $1500 for the last several years that didn't look like absolute hammered dog*&@*.

Makes me wish I'd spent money on a few Colts instead of wine women and song in my younger years.

If it doesn't sell during this month, take it off the market and wait until tax return season. List it again then when everybody has a little jing-a-ling in their pocket.

I walked into a gun shop today that had A Python centennial commemorative blued new in the box listed for $3600. I wasn't about to touch it.

I saw one that matched that description and price over the summer in lower MI... At Johnson's Sporting Goods in Adrian, MI. They are the best gunshop around. That wouldn't have happened to be yours, was it? lol

I have seen them asking 2700 here for 95%+ guns with the box and all the orig. paperwork. In the last year the snake guns have gone up quite a lot.I would say it is a good time to sell a snake gun.Do some reaserch and see what you come up with. The guns I have seen are blued. It was not long agao the nickel guns were a bit higher in price.i am thinking $2000 would be low $2500 or more might be in line.

2000 - 3500 around here. NIB as high as 5000.

Keep this in mind. They are in a bubble right now.
One day in a year or so we are going to see them for half price or less.

Agreed. Same thing happened with Colt SAA pistols. This bubble will likely pop soon. Now is the time to sell. In about a year I will be a buyer.

The latest bubble purchasers want a Python because of Rick in the Walking Dead Series. I have owned three that i purchased cheap and sold for small profit. If I still had any I agree now is the time to sell.

Sorry, I spell "Price" just fine. The worn out, sticking keys on my four year old laptop are another matter entirely. Once the title of a post is entered , as far as I know, it is unable to be edited. I discovered the omission of the "E" too late to correct it. The "M" key on my keyboard is another troublemaker, often refusing to type, even when struck with authority. If this is causing anyone undue mental stress, please let me know and I will delete this thread. I Swapped the python a few days ago for an enclosed trailer, a red dot sight for my AR, a 4000W generator, and a laser rangefinder.
