This morning I took a dandy buck that I would like to share with you. Once again my alloy was a 1-20 mix with .3% copper. The boolit was a ranch dog design 265gr cup point for the 44 mag seated in a harvester sabot and loaded over 95 gr of blackhorn 209.

Very nice animal, congratulations. Most hunters only see pictures or mounts of a buck of that class, you my friend are a very luck hunter. That head should be mounted and you will have a lot to brag about for years to come.

If I ever killed a buck like that, I'd quit deer hunting and take up golf or bass fishing or something. The rest of my life would b anti climactic.

That deer is awsome, great job!

Told you all that I would get a pic of the boolit up. It was a hundred yard broadside shot passing through the heart. I recovered the boolit just under the hide in the off shoulder. Retained weight is 236 gr (it started out at 260).

It's been extremely hectic, lots of critics saying that the deer was poached, found dead, and lots of other stuff. To clarify things here the deer was taken on a friend's farm in Harrison co everyone. He didn't want that to get out there but it's already everywhere, that's why I told y'all Clark co. I'm amazed at the fact that someone can't kill a monster deer without being ridiculed and drug through the mud.

There's a lot of nice deer in southern IN, for sure. Lots of corn and soybean farming means big bodies and nice racks. That one's a really excellent buck, congrats!

This deer is friggin huge. I have a guy coming out sometime this week to give it an official B&C green score, I'll post that when it happens. In the meantime I scored it at 208 3/8 but I'm sure I missed something as I don't really know how to score 'em.

And 24 points? Deer of a lifetime for sure! Don't stress the naysayers. You know the truth about how the deer was taken and if they don't believe you, that's their problem. Hang it on you wall with pride!

I just got the official green score in and it is 218 6/8 inches. And is the largest buck taken in IN this year. I haven't been on here in a few days because I've become very famous locally and have had several people, good and bad, contacting me. All this attention is wigging me out the other day I was getting gas when some stranger walked up and asked me if I was the one that killed that big deer.

Okay, first off I'm not bumping this thread back up to do anything other then tell the story. In the weeks following the kill DNR had to preform an investigation to make sure that everything was legit and I was advised not to tell the story until everything was said and done with that.

The week prior to the hunt a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to come and hunt on his farm for Indiana's ML season to which I agreed. I did some research on his property (topo maps and such) and found a natural funnel between a feeding area and bedding sight. I showed him the area that I wanted to hunt and he told me that he already had a stand in that spot that he hasn't hunted in yet this year. He went on to tell me about a 158" typical that he killed out of that stand last year and that if I wanted we would just hunt together in the same tree and when we are done hunting he would walk me around and show me his property.

Sunday morning we arrived at the stand right at daybreak and used to climbing stands to make our way up into a nearly perfectly straight poplar tree. We settled in at about 30 ft and began our hunt. At about 7:45 we heard something coming through the thicket on his side of the tree. My friend grunted and the buck replied as he worked his way to us. My buddy didn't have a ML tag so he was hunting with a bow. This monstrosity of a deer came out at 54 yards and my buddy (stricken with a bad case of buck fever) tried an ill-advised shot striking the deer low and waaay back. The deer bounded out down the hill into the bottoms below us. I grunted at the deer and he stopped at 98 yards. At this time mu buddy said if you have a shot take it. I had to lean out of my stand to clear a tree and let the lead fly. The deer kicked hard and ran into the briar thicket where, seconds latter, we heard him crash.

All the celebration stopped when 15 minutes after the first crash we heard him get back up, only to crash a second time. We opted to stay on stand for another hour and a half before tracking.

The tracking job was uneventful as the deer was just out of sight of our stands but less then 15 yards from where I shot him at, once we got to where I shot the deer at we could see him piled up. After a short discussion on who was going to claim the deer my buddy said his shot wasn't immediately lethal and obviously mine was so I was the one putting the tag on.

I am having the deer officially scored Friday evening so I'll post the score on here once I find out.

Indiana,

Thank you for sharing the story with us! You not only killed the deer if a lifetime, you have the friendship of a truly good man there. I understand about the carping of the idiots, I see it a lot, but you've got not only the rack but an incredible shared experience to go with it.

Tell the naysayers to suck dirt.

What I have found over the years is that the "naysayers" are usually a bunch of night-shooting poachers/spot lighters who are jealous of the fact that some one else got a beautiful deer legally. These poachers like to brag about the big deer they get, and when someone does it the right way, it makes them look like the piss-ants they really are.

I also notice when the hunter gets a real trophy with a handgun, bow or muzzle loader, it seems to infuriate the cry baby poachers even more.

Say Hickok, you're aquainted with the same whiney, hunt 50 yards off the road, walk in after full daylight, orange ribbon hanging, gut bag dumping, couldn't follow a set of tracks let alone a blood trail like a blacktop center line, wander around a couple hours after getting in the stand, get down to leave at deer- thirty in the second half of the golden hour when the shadows get long, gut shooters, that I am. Small world!
