I loaded up 100 rnds 9mm hard cast bullets for my S&W model 10. They're 124 grn bullets with 3.7 grns of 700X powder. Seems to shoot fine. I was hitting 6" steel plates at 100'.

Anyone else try this?

I have tried them if they are dropping out of the mold at .358 or larger. Many work fine although I haven't used them at long distances.

I went out to 100' because I was doing so good at 30' I wanted to see if groups would hold... And this was all off hand. I was impressed to say the least...

Haven't tried that, but I just picked up a model 10 just like the one in your post. I can't wait to shoot anything out of it.

I had a Lee 124gr TL that cast oversize if i was not careful with the temperature. I pull out the wide ones and load them over some red dot. They work great on pop cans.

Yep, spent some quality time with my 10-10 today. Love that gun!!

Try the Lee 120 tc or the similar Lyman or RCBS Tc designs. These are extremely accurate out of any .38 or .357 pistol or rifles that I've tried them in.

I'm like taxman . . . if they drop from my mold at .358 or larger then I use them. If under .358 I don't. The Lee 356-120 TC I've used to use a lot but not any more as I now pretty much use the Ideal/Lyman 358-242 120 grain RN in my 9mm and 38 Colt Short/Long. I'm sure that someone will probably suggest that if they do fall a little shy on the size for you revolver, you could always PC them to get them a little fatter for the 38.

I use MP 359125 and 359135 all the time. They get loaded from plinking to full 357 Magnum potential. Extremely accurate, fun to shoot and easy on the lead :)

You are lucky your 38 bore is small.....or you 9mm boolit drops are big! Have you slugged your bore yet??????????

I cast and shoot .358 boolits in ALL my 9mm and 38/357 guns. 356 does no work for me at all!

And I PC everything so I can up-size if needed.

I never used cast but my Ruger 9mm likes XTP js meant for a .357.

Have you miked those 'hard cast' 9mm boolits? I don't shoot 9mm, myself, but a friend who acquired some commercial 'hard cast' 147 gr. TCs that actually measured .357. He had some feed issues with the first batch he loaded into 'once-fired' milsurp cases (thick-walled brass) so he tried them in .38s for his Smith 686 and they shot just fine. Not 'match grade' accuracy but good enough for steel plate practice.

I use the Lee 124 gr. TL bullet. It is too small to size .358 so I size it .357. It is deadly accurate from the .38 or the .357 Mag.

I use a 9mm 147 truncated design with a .358 diameter in both the 38 Special and 357 as well as the 9mm. Works a treat. As there is no crimping groove, I taper crimp right at the beginning of the ogive and have never had one slip forward in recoil in a revolver.

I use a Lee 120 TC, powder coated and sized to .358. Works well for a light boolit in a 38 Special.

These 9mm boolits were made by a local guy... He makes and sells about 6 or 8 common calibers. Been doing it for about 20 years now. He told me he can swedge them .356 or .358... These are supposed to be .356, the box says 9mm. I mic'd them and thought they were .356 but can't remember. I've had them for a couple years now before I tried reloading.

The idea was to reduce how many different caliber bullets I needed to stock... I haven't tried them in 9mm yet but they seem to work great in the Model 10. I'll be checking for leading after I shoot some more...

The TC Lyman 356402, and the Lee TL356-124-2R boolit work nicely for me in the 38 Special cartridge when sized to .358

Both styles shot surprisingly well for me after a simple tumble lube.

The little Lee 358-105-SWC also works in both 9mm (if your pistol will feed it) and 38 Special if you don't mind lighter boolits not shooting to the same point of aim.

I recently tried the NOE 358-155-tc(ELCO) in 38 special. I figured since it worked great in my 9mm and was the appropriate size, I would give it a try. It worked nicely.
My only issue is, I have a lot of different molds for 38 special/357 and they all work reasonably well. Some a little better than others depending on the particular application.
Mostly, my guns, both 9mm and 38, all seem to do a bit better with heavier boolits. My 9mm's like 135gr and up. My 38 specials like 158gr and up. Not to say they don't do well with smaller boolits. They just do better with the heavier ones.

Most all of my loads these days are with a 138gn NLG RF slug that drops 359. I PC and size for 358 for 9mm and 38/357. That 356 9mm RF mold that Lee makes does not have enough taper to the nose and I was getting hang-ups in my chambers! This mold from MiHec (brass!) is the perfect shape to chamber smoothly in all my semi's.

I tried the little lee 356-95 in 38 sp and accuracy was poor. Considering as cast was .3565" and the minimal driving bands it's not surprising. I think I'll cast another batch but powder coat them and quench to make them harder. Might just do the trick.

I once had a dandy load for my K-38 using 130 gr. swaged 9mm round noses from a now defunct manufacturer over 4.0 gr. of Bullseye. I knew nothing of cylinder throat diameter at the time, but those soft bullets happily slugged up and down to whatever the throat, forcing cone, or barrel wanted. It was nicely accurate to 25 yards.

My older Lyman/Ideal 358242 (120 gr.) drops at .360. I size to .358 and it is superb in 9MM, 38 Spl and .357.

I cast for a fellow who is into Cowboy Action Shooting. He has me cast the 356402 Lyman abd size them .358. They work well for him as CASS shooting distances which typically are quite short. I prefer the 158 gr RN RCBS bulelt for IDPA and have other 38/357 molds I sue for plinking,or target work. I just don;t bother with the 9MM bullets in my guns...no need I guess.

Take Care
