I got a used, but new to me SC 31141 mold the other day. The previous owner had left a boolit in the cavity which hadn't but cut yet as the sprue was in place. It must have been linotype as it was shiney and weighed 166 gr. I cast some out of my own alloy, they weighed 180 gr. Quite a difference......................... Any of you experience that much difference from different alloys out of the same mold cavity?

Yep, sure have. From Linotype to WW will do it, even more for me in a 45 cal bullet.

Yup, and if you use some monotype, it will be even lighter.

I'd say your mould is casting about what it should. My 311041 casts 174-175 gr. (Lyman Handbook says 173 gr) from straight #2 alloy and right at 171.5 gr. from the 3 part #2/1 part linotype mix I use for rifle boolits. Add a gascheck and lube and they weigh out at 173.0 +/- .2 gr.

I weigh almost all bullets cast and keep records of the average and SD of the weights.My 31141 is an old DC mold, with punch marks to show which cavity-"Bottom Dot" = front cavity, "Top Dot" = rear cavity.
I looked up the last 6 times cast with this mold.
"Soft" = ~ lead
Bottom = 176.1 gr., Top = 175.3 gr.
"Lino"
B = 162.8 gr., T = 162.2 gr.
B = 163.6 gr., t = 162.9 gr.
Other mixes weighed in between.
So ?lino to ? lead went from B = 162.8 to 176.1
(I don't really know what I get when I buy "lino" or "lead".)
