View Full Version : My Hornady 300blk seating die left an indentation ring...

...on my PC'ed cast rounds. The bullet is an accurate 247-311 projectile with no lube grooves. Some googling and tuning and I found out I wasn't expanding the case mouth enough (using the Noe expander plugin for the lee expander die).

I've loaded a bunch of rounds already for initial testing of new load data and I'm wondering if that ring is going to have any kind of effect on my tests. I'm mainly testing for proper cycling, bolt lock back, obvious pressure signs, and if the indoor range let's me, chronograph them.

On a side note, is there a better seating die you guys have used the the 300blk?

If I understand it correctly your seating die leaves a ring on the bullets nose? If that is the problem you can solve it by using something like JB Weld or hot melt glue on the seating stem to conform to the bullets ogive.
