I was shooting my 57-1 6" the other day at 80 yards and put a palm sized group on the steel. I was wondering how much better i could do with a scope. Got to looking online and made the mistake of bidding on a S&W Model 57 8 3/8" with a scope. It arrived today. I must say I am pleased with the price I paid and the condition. It has some honest wear and is tight and in time. I would say a 90% gun, maybe 95. It is pinnned and recessed and doesn't appear to be shot much. Having been drilled and tapped altered it from original but not too much of a bother to me. I figure I may locate a rear sight sometime and remove the scope and Leupold base. Ought to make a very nice hunting revolver.

That is a different looking scope. What kind is it?

It is a thompson center Electra Dot. No longer made and supposed to handle significant recoil. Pretty sure TC made these for the contender to handle the recoil.

Just out of curiosity, what is your favourite boolit for these revolvers? Gas-checked? Tumble-lube? Inquiring minds want to know? Thanks.

I have the MP 411640 and 412640 and the new NOE 411251 WFN. To date, I've only cast with the heavier MP molds that casts about 228 with the small hollow point. Bens red lube and a plain base gas check using a pat marlin checkmaker and yonky's coil aluminum.

Shot a doe last year with the 6" 57-1 during the firearms season and hope to repeat that again. Our season closes Sunday.

Nice score! S&W 57's rock! My 6" has been to bear country in Alaska twice. It was a great comfort to have a hard hitting, accurate, and reliable .41 on my hip. It also decked a bull caribou at 173 yards with stock sights. That 8 3/8" with a scope should should make for a really nice long range rig. Mine also wears the same grips. Pachmeyers really make a difference. I have not found a load,of over 210 grains, that my 57 does not like. Congratulations.

Have you had any problems with the grip screw contacting the mainspring? My grip had slightly shifted and was contacting the rear of the mainspring. I realigned the grip and got rid of the contact but the screw and mainspring are still close.

Hmmm....maybe I can convince you to sell your original Model 57!

mac266, nice try. I seem to be working on a Smith 41 Magnum collection. I have this one, the 6 inch 57 - 1 and a 4-inch nickeled 58 that is p&r. I missed out on a really nice four inch 57 at the local gun shop. He needed to sell it before I could come up with the money.

Be careful. Those 41s multiply in the safe. i swear they do! I have all those molds. My favorite to date is the 255gr WFN GC LBT style from Accurate. Heavy dose of 296 and I get supurb accuracy.

There are deals to be had, just have to be patient. I had to sell my Marlin 1894S and CCL about 2 years ago. Regret selling them, but had to let them go. Looking for replacements but they are like hens teeth and PRICEY.

I remember you selling those. I just couldn't swing the money to buy one or the other at the time.
