I can't get the idea of a lever action .327 fed/mag in a carbine length out of my mind.
It seems like it would be a beautiful mix of utilitarianism and amusement.
With different loads I could see it being good for hunting many small game animals, varmint dispatching, target practice, or teaching new shooters.

My obvious issue is that no-one seems willing to produce a factory offering in this caliber, so, I've been toying with the idea of having one built, but I know next to nothing about metallurgy.

My question is,

What would you look at for a host model?

Marlin 62 in 30 Carbine does the same thing and can be had pretty cheap. M1894 32 H&R could likely be modified to feed 327 Fed, likely will cost some money if you don't do the work yourself.

Only reason I can see to have one is if you already carry 327 pistol and want to share ammo woth your rifle so you only have to worry about 1 caliber of ammo. Hand loading for 357 lever action you have the option of loading every thing from 90 grain to 200 grain bulleys at 38 special /traill boss gallery loads to full house magnum loads near 30-30 capabilities for deer sized game... I dont see a 327 being as versatile.

I have the next best thing; actually a couple of them. I really enjoy shooting my Winchester 92's in 32-20. They're slick little rifles and shooting them is dirt cheap! They're great little plinkers and will handle the small critter chores just fine.

Trapper's in 32-20 and 25-20. Maybe in 1873 and 1866 Winchester clones. Love to see Winchester put those out in an 1892 as well.

Maybe talk to these guys if you really have to have one built. Don't know if it will actually work or not but they might know.

I have a Marlin Cowboy in 32 H&R that I really like. 327 would just up the fun.

IIRC, The .327 Federal has an operating pressure of 45,000psi - at least twice that of the .32H&R Magnum - and AFAIK, most leverguns (excepting the BLR, Win 88, Sako Finnwolf & maybe the Marlin 62) were not designed to handle that level of pressure.

IMO, if someone has to handload a .327 Fed down to a safe pressure, you may as well just buy a .32H&R and be done with it.

I would have a Rossi R92's barrel either swapped out or lined. The .357 model would be the most likely donor. And if it can handle the .44 magnum, .480 Ruger, and .454 then I'm thinking it would have no issue with the .327's pressure. I'm no 1892 expert by any means though so I'm not sure what all modifications would need to be done.

I too would love to have a lever gun in 327 Magnum. I've never found the Marlin 1894 in in 32 H&R, but I keep looking at the local gun shows.

In the mean time, My Marlin Model 1894 CL in 32/20 soldiers on in good form with slightly reduced ballistics. A new 4 cavity mold for a 115 grain boolit in 32 calibre with gas check heel just came from NOE last month. Soon as the Holidays are over, I plan to test it out in both a 32/20 revolver and the Marlin 1894 CL.
