If anyone is looking for a pretty good bullet for a .357, this one has my vote. 50/50 ww/pb, 12 grains of 2400. One dropped on the spot at 50 yards, the other ran to 125 and stopped to see what happened. Quartering away behind the shoulder, exiting at the base of the neck, ran about 100 feet.

Have you chronographed that load? What are you shooting it out of?

I shoot that bullet in this CVA Scout...12.8grs of 2400, chrono'd at 1650fps and COWW alloy.

I will be shooting same bullet out of the same gun, I was given a load of 13.5 gr H110 that was around that same velocity seems a little sluggish out of a rifle but that pile of meat in the back of your truck didnt seem to think so.

Good morning and Congratulations !
That is what a 180 will do. Half a minute of excitement for 5 hours of work but great eating !
Bought the same mold to use in my lever rifles next time up.

Good job!

Guess the boolit feeds ok through the Ruger?

I use the same bullet in my Marlin. I plan to use it for our late antlerless season.

Good of job by the way! I doubled on a pair of does with my 375 win earlier this year. I have to agree with the 30 seconds of fun for five hours of work comment!

Good job! That's the same bullet my ten year old popped his two doe's with on his first deer hunt in the youth season. That bullet out of a 77/357 at a little over 1500 fps did a splendid job. I on the other hand have struck out so far. The .44 mags nor the 45-70 have had an opportunity to speak.

Ohio started to allow straight walled cartridges in rifles last year
Mark P, Yes that's the one.
Mica, I'm using 12 grains of 2400, 50/50 lube, 50 coww/50 PB. After sizing, I give them a coat of Ben's liquid. Doesn't matter if I'm shooting plain base or gas checked, zero leading.

My load is 8.5 gr of surplus 10b101 powder, wolf primers, 360-180 with homemade checks. 1550 fps.

Shoot-n-Lead,

What kind of accuracy are you getting out of that CVA? I was thinking about getting one and possibly reaming it out to a maximum. How do you like the gun overall?

Very Nice! I just got this mould a couple weeks ago. Casts nicely. I poured a bunch of the HP and FN last week. Loading them up ASAP. Glad to see success with it. I hope to get out and shoot a few soon. You are using the Gas checks I assume? I got the 4 cavity with 2 GC and 2 PB. I am excited to get out and see how they perform for me.

They shot surprisingly well out of my 350 Rem Mags both the HP and FN version. I have been thinking about using this combo for the Nebraska Late firearm Deer Season.

Hey, way to go! Good shooting.

I don't think you mentioned whether you water-dropped or air-cooled these bullets?

Jeff Michel

No, these were air cooled. Wasn't looking for harder, just some expansion if possible. The alloy was half wheel weights, half straight lead.

I suppose with 1470 fps muzzle velocity that bullet was probably not much over 1100 fps (if that) at 125 yards. Expansion was probably somewhat minimal. All I can say is good shot and good job! That's some great field experience to share with all of us. Thanks!

Same thought here but in my 358 win shortened to 1.8"

I have had good success with this NOE mold. Killed a big doe the other evening. About 45 yards, punched a nice clean hole through both lungs. There was a blood trail even the newest of trackers could follow. Went about 65 yards and slid down a small ravine.

With your 12 gr of 2400 do you get much leading in your barrel?

thanks

Jeff Michel

I'm sizing them at .359, 50/50 lube with a coating of Ben's liquid lube. I shoot both plain base and gas checked. No leading, no difference in POI.

I run 12 gr. Of 2400. In my marlin i notice tighter groups with checked bullets. They are running around 1500.
The 4 cav aluminum drops pretty bullets and lots of them. :bigsmyl2:
