Opinions please. I got this from my grandfather's shed, which could of been there for many years, and I'm not sure of the components. Please advise.

Pure lead from the lead plumbing days. That was the handle that had I believe four 5 lb. ingots connected to it for a total of 25 lbs. Used back then for poured lead/oakum joints on cast iron pipe.

Thanks for the information and opinions. I'll bet my grandfather would prefer it to be used.

Hagdog... thanks for the picture buddy. It has been 20 years since I have seen one of those. FECMECK is dead on right about what that thing is.

Smelt it and cast it! It should be good lead. I have smelted 'out of first choice' many of the old 'rings' recovered from old cast iron "bell and spigot' sewer lines. Really don't see them any more. I found some around Ft. Worth once when they were demoying some old homes for a parking lot. City made them dig up all old utility lines and out came the cast pipe. The demo team stacked the pipe and I showed up on Friday with a case of beer and the fellas got busy with the beer and I walked away with 20 or so of the old 'hot poured' gasket rings used to seal the joints.

All were happy Friday night!

Nose Dive.

Cheap, Fast, Good. Kindly pick two.
