I can't seem to find anyone who carries a 'Possum Hollow' chamber plug for my Mauser 8 X 57 and PH isn't returning my e-mail. I plan to use a foaming cleaner and would like to plug the chamber? What else can I use to seal it? I wondered about some type of rubber membrane over a foam earplug? Ideas?
Thanks, Flyer

I have used a shell casing put into the chamber and close the bolt.

A wooden dowel rod with one end whittled down to fit the neck area . Leave the rod just a bit large so you can bump it in to make the final seal .

I use a cork inserted in the chamber

ACE Hardware stores have all sorts of cork and rubber plugs back in the drawers by the nuts and bolts.

*** Possum Hollow lists a different part number for 8 X 57. I am going to try the o-ring over a fired case. Thanks, Flyer

I like the Wipe Out product myself. It and probably its competition are sold with a red small straw that can be placed in the spray nozzle. Take a spent case from your rifle and drill (enlarge) the flash-hole in a deprimed case to allow the red straw to just enter the "modified" case. This will seal the chamber and direct the expanding foam up through the bore. And yes you may get a bit of a false copper indication from the spent case. Not really a big issue.
