Where can I get a heater for the 45?

A aluminum plate, large enough for your sizer and a clothes Iron from the thrift is a inexpensive way to get a adjustable heater.

If you want to buy a new one (you have to drill mounting holes), the Lyman's universal heater will work.

UNIVERSAL LUBE HEATER
Q: What temperature will this heat to?
A: The heater will heat the lube sizer to between 120 and 130 degrees.

Q: Can I use this for the old style 45 sizer?
A: There are no mounting holes drilled for the 45, however you can drill into it as long as you stay away from the heating element-this goes in straight from the cord.

I LIKE THE CLOTHS IRON IDEA. Cheap and effective.

Used a heat-gun/paint scrapper. Take pressure of off lube and warm. Works quickly. Not as convenient as a designated heater but does the job.

If I was to do it again I would skip the heater and get a heat gun. For a long time I used a clamp light and a 100 watt bulb to heat it up and it worked OK but the light in your eyes gets old. Even with the heater I still end up using the heat gun to speed it up and the heater just keeps it warm.

I have a 45 and use a cartridge heater hooked up to a light dimer switch. I drilled a hole the same size as the cartridge ,shove it in and set the heat to how hot I want it to be the heater cost me about 5 bucks an ebay.

When I need heat on my Lyman 45 I use an old hair dryer with a hose that I got at a yard sale for 50 cents. I arrange the hose so it blows at the back side of the lube reservoir and set the temp to high. When the lube starts to move easily,(usually just a couple of minutes) I turn the temp down to low.
I am too cheap to buy a dedicated heater.

I picked up some candle warmers at my local Goodwill for $1 each. I removed the plastic housing and I was left with a thin aluminum plate with a built in resistance heater, switch, plug and indicator light (anything to help me remember to turn it off). All I had to do was cut a notch for the resistance wire in my mounting plate and drill a few holes through the aluminum. Those candle warmers often have high and low settings and are designed to melt wax candles, so the temperature is about right for most stick lubes.

I mounted mine to a 2x4 that I clamp to the work bench. Between the sizer and the 2x4 I stuck a piece of scrap metal that hangs out the back, and when I need a warmer I put a tea light candle under it.

I have my Lyman 45 set up the same as Merick but I just place an old electric iron on the metal plate that I have under the Sizer and the back end of the 2x4. I really only need to use it in the winter time in my unheated garage so the most of the time the iron sits on shelf but its there when I need it.

Lyman 45's mounted to benchtop with an 1/8" thick piece of SS stock under the sizers and a gap between them.
It's metal surface area is just big enough to set a clothes iron on if needed, which is seldom due to my lube recipe.
Very effective when I need it, though.

I have my sizers mounted on Lee bench plates. I hollowed out a space under the sizer and put a layer of aluminum foil under it to keep it from burning the wood.

The Lyman factory heater is 10 watts IIRC. Mine is 50 so I have to turn it down with a dimmer.

Cheap hair driers of Harbor Freight heat gun works great as a heater. Spend about 5-10 minutes heating everything up and thinking about how great these boolits are going to shoot. Then start lubeing and sizing. After 30 min you may have to reheat everything for a few minutes. Amount of heat is a function of surrounding temp and how hard you lube is.

I bought a bunch of 80 watt Weller soldering irons at the local farm store for $12 each on clearance. Used 2-3/4" thick aluminum plates bolted together with gasket material between them. bored a hole in the back of the top plate for the largest tip to slip fit into with a set screw to secure. You need to dress the tip end round as it is spread from when it was swaged to a chisel point. Then rigged up an outlet controlled by a light dimmer switch. They work great on any luber

I bought a hair dryer from the thrift shop 18 ears ago and it's still working. Not fancy but it does the job and for $2 too.

I got an aquarium heater of ebay and use it like a PID to keep exact temperature on mine. Only problem is it's in ᴼC but I've got a cheat sheet--actually just plug it in and it does all the work, no need to mess with it other than when I first set it to temp I wanted.
