I have been looking to upgrade a few of my 45 acp to the 460 Rowland and I was wanting to find out more about what size mold would I need to get? What is the heaviest weight I can go with? All I see is 260 gr I'd think this would be able to push a heavier bullet but maybe OAL comes a problem? Thanks for the advice and help!

All it is is a lengthened 45acp case. This keeps it from chambering in standard 45 gun. Loads to same OAL as 45auto, but to higher pressure. No added case capacity. I considered it many times, but I would have to go with a dedicated gun and not really keen on comps for woods carry/hunting. 10mm solved those needs in an autoloader.

It can't shoot the heavies. It will blow the doors off a 10mm. A 255 grain hard cast bullet with a decent meplat at 1300 fps is serious medicine.

I've converted my 625 to the .460. I run both .45ACP/.45 Auto Rim and .460 out of it. No special bullets really, I've not found any that will not shoot well in it.

I'm guessing the 300 gr 45 LC would not work with it?

I think, don't know, but not enough room in the case for both the bullet and the powder and the OAL may be whacked. It is a semi-auto.

I shoot the lee 252 lswc out of my 45 acp 1911 all day. I'd be "willing" to try the 300 out of a roland, but you're really limiting your case volume being since it has the same OAL of an ACP. I think the 230-250 range is as high as I'd take it while still being able to extract the potential.

I've also shot 400gr bullets in my 45 colt at "ruger only" pressures (1100fps), they only produce 950 ft lbs of energy, meanwhile the 255gr at 1500fps makes 1275 ft lbs with the same pressure. At some point the reduction in case volume shoots (Pun!) your potential power in the foot.

Limitations of the magazine will be the largest hamper. I re-size 300g .458's to .452 and can run them all day long, due to the taper of the bullet it will chamber just fine (in a revolver). It is too long for the magazine though. There are two very good designs in the Accurate catalog in the 250g weight range. Depending on how your chamber is cut you may also find that 255g .45 LC bullets work just fine as well, just depends on the chamber and how you size the bullets. The two designs below will work in the .45 ACP as well. Tom makes great molds and if you want the mold cut with both designs he will do that too.

What concerns do you have with comps for woods carry/hunting? I am about to convert a Glock 30SF to carry hiking and interested in your opinion.
