Our Wva deer season started this past monday and has a concurrent doe season in selected counties. My dad and i have been hunting the same farm for the last 15 years in a different cou ty and i ended up getting two does thus far. I dropped my 308 scope on the 4wheeler rack and missed the biggest buck ive ever seen three times just after daylight on tuesday, talk about sick!
Anyhow, i was looking for some nostalgia this season so a couple of rifles i packed in the camper was a m96 long rifle 6.5x55 that i just made a home made scope mount that is a no drill with a 2x ler pistol scope and the other was my trusty RRB #2 in 25-20 SS.
Day one saw one doe harvested with the 6.5x55 at 120 yds.
Today i took the 25-20 SS in case i seen some squirrel for camp food.

I was scouting around the ridges and peeking over the edges when i saw 2 large does bedded down. The only shot i had was offhanded and about 85 yds +/-. I took careful aim lining up the marbles tang and the front lyman beach sight and pulled the trigger. The bullet struck the spine just in front of the backstrap and traveled into the left lung. Her head and neck instantly hit the ground and never moved again!
Have you ever had a rifle that was just plain lucky or maybe good? Every time i grab this old girl the animal on the other end is a dead animal!
Load was jamison brass, win large rifle, 8.1 grains imr 4227 and hornady vmax 75 grain bullets.
I thought some of you would like a pic of my old girl so here ya go.
The sun made it impossible to get a good pic.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
