Is it possible to take a plain base bullet mold, surface grind the bottom all the way up to the lube groove, and convert the mold into a gas check design? Naturally, there would need to be another lube groove. Is it clear what I am asking? Is it possible?

I guess if the lube groove fit the measurement of the gas check, you could chuck up the mould in a mill and take it down. Biggest problem, seems to me, would come if the lube groove was of some lesser measurement than a gas check.

Agreed! If the lube groove was the right dimension this could be done.

Point in fact H&G's catalog showed many a boolit that could have it's weight "adjusted" by adding or removing base bands, and or gas checks.

I believe ballisticast (?) still shows this information on the web site!

The lube groove diameter can always be increased by reaming or boring to the desired size.
However, most of the lube grooves that I have seen are too short to hold a gas check and there is no easy way to add material to change this.
