Ozark County Whitetail

Climb up in my tree stand about 1:30 PM today and about 15 min. later this guy come along.

I shot him at about 30 yards.Boolit was the NOE 311331 HP cast out of 50-50 WW and pure lead.Weight of the boolit ready to shoot was 215 grs. Powder was SR4759 in a 30-06.Velocity about 2000 fps. Rifle is a TC Encore.
I shot him in the neck and the boolit exit was through the off shoulder.The exit was about the size of a small lady's fist.About 3-4 inches.Deer stood up on his back feet and fell over dead right there.

I have to size the nose of this boolit .299 to get it to chamber in my TC 30-06 barrel.Overall I am well pleased with the way the boolit performed.Course 30 yard shot is not a real test of boolit performance.
Anyway got fresh meat in the freezer..............Terry

Very nice buck! That sounds like a great boolit/load combo. I also love the encore platform, my next purchase maybe tomorrow will be a older contender pistol.

Good job on the harvest. That's a nice looking buck. I'm wondering if the boolits are doing s much damage because of the HP. I shot a similar buck broadside with a FN boolit and had a clean kill and smaller exit wound but it didn't hit the shoulder either.

Nice Buck!!! Don't sell that boolits performance short. Close range shots are where a lot of bullets struggle, but 30 caliber boolits preform very well.

I really thought because of the very deep HP pin that NOE put in my mold that there would have been a lot more damage.The way it was I lost about half of the right shoulder.There was nothing left of the lungs but the heart was not touched.......Terry

I too have a second tag but I think I will save it for the Alternative-methods portion – Dec. 19 through 29 season and use one of my Contenders. If the weather is not to bad. I am a fair weather deer hunter..........Terry

Yes, thank God. Since August, and right when the weather got better, or so I am told. Right after I got here, it was so nice to go to a gun show and buy a gun in about 2 minutes, most of it spent counting out the cash. My dad's family is from here for many generations, so I just came home as far as I am concerned. Most everyone I talk to has got their deer. The guys adding onto my carport are finishing today and getting back to it.

Just never know when a buck will come dragging through the area. That had to be a good afternoon. Maybe that "pentagon" HP shape has something to do with the way they expand. 5 straight intersections under stress. What ever it is that combination at 30 yards will do in a critter.
