Has anyone used these in the 1895 marlin (ballard type) any notes on accuracy and terminal performance on game, such as deer and hog?

I have used this boolit in my 1895 Marlin. Sized to .460" and lubed with BAC over 26gr of SR4759 shoots just under an inch at 50 yards. No game taken yet. I have other molds with larger meplats for hunting.

I like the boolit though.

I have the lee .457-405-rf but haven't taken anything with it either, I have noticed when I recover the bullets from the soft dirt birm I shoot into, one side shows rifling while the other is scraped off, that's one reason for the move to the .459

Your rifling missing from one side of the boolit is only the boolit turning as it goes into the dirt and "sanding" one side down. You'll see this in most boolits recovered from dirt. This does NOT mean you don't need a fatter boolit. It also doesn't mean you do.

Marlin 1895 MG bbl. Casting/shooting the Lee 405 HB - COWW + 2% tin. Sized to .460. 50/50 pan lubed. currently over 38.5 gr IMR 3031(lite Trapdoor load). Going to up it to ~40 grn. Getting 1325 fps currently, looking for ~1375 fps. Recoil is very easy.

Took my first cast bullet deer w/ it last year. ~85 yards, standing straight away with flag up. When it raised its head and looked to the left, sent it. Flipped the deer tail over snout. Wasn't a killing shot, with the target spot, but it sure wasn't getting up!

If your loaded rounds will cycle through your rifle you should be ok shooting without sizing.May want to load a few dummy cartridges to see how the cycle.Your accuracy may depend somewhat on how uniform you can cast your boolits.
