I had a good day wood working, just a little finish sanding and ready for the oil finish and checkering.

I am going to post the pictures both ways and hope one or the other works.

That's very nice work that you're doing with that rifle , I can appreciate all the effort , sweat, etc. that goes into a project like that , some won't be able to appreciate it, but I assure you I can :

Thanks for the complements Ben and Buckshot.
Ben, my gunsmith inlayed the wood for me so at least for me, the hard part was already done. Will start checkering this morning and post a picture of the finished stock before sending the rifle out for color case hardening, blueing and other finishing touches.

That photobucket is working well for you. How much labor time from photo # 1 - photo # 2 ? ?

John,

Wanna get rid of the wrap aound ?

In photobucket
1.find the picture you want to post,
2.click edit
3.click resize
4.click up/down arrow @preset sizes
5.click message board

Now it is shrunk down to full message board size to post.
keep the original size in your pc. You can also make it smaller in your camera before tking the pic, or resize in your pc. Posting thumbnails makes it hard to open and see detail of pic.

Hope this helps,
Jon

Don't you just love all the free advice we give here? And it's worth every cent you pay for it. Here's some more: Just copy the image code of your Photobucket photos and paste in your post here. That way we see the actual picture rather than the link to the picture as you have above. If I remember correctly, there are 4 addresses or numbers for each picture you have posted there. The Image Code is the bottom one. Post your pictures again using this method. Sil vous plez.

Thanks Ben,

Are the pictures from photobucket actually showing without clicking the link?

I have an additional 1 1/2 to 2 hours glass bedding the wood to metal. It certainly wasn't necessary with the fit I already had but I like it that way.
Now I am working on checkering, not my idea of fun.

Pics look fine in thread # 14.

I'm not into checkering, but the stock fitting and finishing, Yes, I enjoy that.

This high wall was in limited production in the mid to late 1990's and is supposed to be the 28 th of 28 built. As far as I know, this is the last.

Very nice looking rifle, John. .38-55, huh? That should be a flexible enough choice to let you find lots of reasons to shoot it. Didn't make any drawings of things did you?

BOY! Is that a hint or what? I like it! I told John I am in the process of building the FDH #2 like in his icon. That's a fine looking rifle too.

John,
How'd you come by the highwall action? There have been a few different people build a few and then quit, I suspect the money isn't there for the time involved and I wonder if there is a patent thing now with Browning producing the action again. Sure love the looks of the Hi/Low wall actions. I have a original 1885 (made in 1886) Winchester low wall action. It was a 32 Rimfire but it was in terrible shape so I changed it over to a centerfire action and put a 224 barrel on it that is chambered for 218 Mashburn Bee. Definitely a fun gun and cartridge. Been talking to Hornet about loading some cast boolits in it now that I have the bug.:Fire::Fire:

Hi Rick,

No drawings, I didn't make this action, as a matter of fact I plan to take it apart today or tomorrow for a close look, I'll also take some pictures.

Hi,

I was looking for an action in gunbroker, not sure what style action just a single shot for a project. I ran across this high wall, never having had one before and this being a limited production receiver with some changes to improve the design to also set it apart, I needed it. Individuality doesn't come cheap though, I could have bought a new Winchester for the price of the receiver. However, when I am finished I will have a rifle the way I want with an excellent trigger and that should be accurate right from the start. In the past I would do all the metal work and leave the wood and blueing to someone else. This time the metal, blueing, and color case hardening are being done by the gunsmith who sold me the action and barrel, I am doing the wood fo a change, so I still have a large part in this rifle.

How are the FDH#2's coming along?

John
