I am looking for information on making shot loads for a .44 mag. Types and charge weights of powder. Over powder wads. charge weight of shot. Over shot wads. Cases if you can use other than 44 mag cases.
Thanks

Speer shot capsules are the easiest. I have a friend who loves to sit out by his pond at dusk and shoot bats with them. I know he uses #9 shot, not sure of the powder charge.

He must like mosquitoes! I'd never shoot a bat. They eat their body weight of flying insects per day. Most of those flying insects like me too much! More power to the bats, I say.

See http://www.castbullet.com/reload/44shot.htm

+1 on the don't shoot bats unless, like the shrink mentioned, you like mosquitoes.

+1 on the Speer shot capsules. I load these in .44 Spl. cases over 4.5 gr Bullseye using #12 shot. Great rat stompers for inside barns and corn cribs...no holes in the siding or slats! Also load the .38/.357 version for my wife's 4" Colt Diamondback and she can attest to their effectiveness on slithery critters, too.

Rather than shoot bats, I found it is fun to shoot moths around the porch light with a "custom" load from a Crosman multi-pump up smoothbore bb shooter using chopped up copper sheeting or just trimmings from your case trimmer as "shot" and tissue paper as wadding.

Those speer shot capsules have recommended loads on the back of the box. I use them for Rattlers in both .357 and .44 with good results. I load them up with #9 shot as it's the smallest that I have around.
