Yesterday, Saturday, was the opening day of regular rifle season in Missouri. At first light I put the TC Encore .308 Winchester to work with the 31141 176 gr. boolit. It was straight wheel weight metal over a light charge of 5744 at an estimated velocity of 1650'/s. The mid sized spike ran about 40 yards and gave it up. It was a pass through shot. The boolit entered just behind the front shoulders. I was surprised at the internal damage on the buck. As almost everyone knows, the 31141 is a great hunting boolit in a variety of 30 caliber platforms. The nice thing about this combination is that the point of impact is within a three inch diameter circle from 30-100 yards. I have not tried it at increased ranges to see how it performs as most of my shots where I hunt are from 25 to 75 yards. This makes for a very easy to use combination. The meat is sitting in the cooler waiting for final processing which I intend to do tomorrow. Love shooting these cast boolits.

Congratulations! I'm using the LEE170FN which is almost the same as your mold and it is very effective. Just ask the 10 pointer I bagged this morning

Good job, I also used a 311041, mine was 50-50 ww and soft lead, very effective.

Congrats! My first "small bore" cast deer was with an Ideal 31141 I cast of wheel weights out of a .30-30. I've since killed one with the NOE clone (slightly larger diameter ogive) and it works well too.

Congrats on the buck. It's great to get one early in the morning like that and have all day to do the skinning and processing part.

Stan that was a good job on the spike. I have 3 of the 311041 molds. One is a hollow point that I use with a cup point pin.My grandson last year killed 2 deer using that 311041 HP boolit out of a Marlin 30-30. Velocity was about 1800 fps. and the distance was close. One was off of the front porch and the second one was from the back porch about one minute apart.I was amazed at the damage that was done by that boolit.I cast them from straight wheel weight metal and air cooled.

Anyway congratulation on fresh meat in the freezer. No luck for me yet this year..............Terry
