Smelted some small arches of wheel weights this weekend. One batch had a bluish/purplish tint to the skim. I skimmed it off and as soon as the fresh melt was exposed to the air, it developed a blue/purple tint too. I did sort before I started, but not this batch, I just poured the last of the coffee tin in. Learned a lesson!

Only about 3 pounds, I poured into ingots and cleaned the pot before I resumed. What was this tint? Are the ingots any good to use or are they just fishing weights now? Thanks!

Technicolor is good! LEAD at various temps turns all kinds of colors.

And even the ingots will sometimes hold that bluish purple cast to the surface. Pretty and one good indicator of nice plain lead.
