The title says it all: Any feedback on this gun? Btw, it comes in 12 and 20 gauge.

My son has one in a 12. It really shoots Remington copper solids well. 3 shots will always group 1.5 inches.

We haven't shot any other slugs in it because there wasn't much point. Tried the Remington first and they did the job.

Also should add that everything functions as it should. Clip, safety, etc. The gun was well built.

Thanks for responding, 6901! I've only seen a photo of the 220 in an ad, but since it's a Savage, I assumed it is well constructed.

I have been thinking of getting one in 20 gauge so as not to get beat up. My friend has one in 12 gauge that he bought before the 20 gauge came out and he likes it.

A friend of mine, a Catholic priest, has one (20 ga.) and said that it shoots 2" groups at 100 yds. I believe he said they were 3 shot groups. He's deer hunting with it this weekend.

A bench rest shooting friend had one but got rid of it because it's accuracy was too variable. Sometimes great, other times abismal all with the same ammo.

That has not been my experience. Its consistence with Remington copper solids has not changed in 3 seasons. However I only have the one to base this on.

I have the 12 gauge with a Leupold 2-7 X scope. It is very accurate even with my hand loaded slugs. If I were in a place that only allowed shotgun slugs for deer I would think they would be just what the doctor ordered. They are a well made shotgun and functions flawlessly. I think I would opt for the 20 gauge if I were buying again because the 12 gauge slug is a hand full to shoot.

Always thought a 20 gage with cast round balls in some fashion of cup or patch would be the cats meow for Illinois shotgun only deer. But they allow us to use muzzle loader during shotgun season.
Since I already have more long guns than fit into my gun case. I know you are familiar with muzzle loaders. So yes a 20 bore round ball hand loaded. 12 bore solid rb is about to much gun. Well suppose that is unless you are looking for a really big gun. You may be fat with cash but I'd never pay the price of those sabot slugs. Hell I don't even deer hunt here in Illinois anymore since Blogo who is in prison doubled the taq price. We just shoot them and leave them lay for coyote bait.

Since Chicago doubled the tag rates. Revenue has dropped. Go figure.
We can shoot then feed to the hogs any Chicago boys who have any issue with that.

P.S.
Blogo who doubled those rates. Is serving prison time in Colorado.

I thought the Savage slug bolt gun looks good.
Only negative I ever heard was ya need a "long" scope since bolt opening is so large rings are spaced quite far apart so small scopes where bell widens don't have enough wiggle room to set eye relief moving back and forth between rings. No experience here just what I heard, makes sense, something to think about.
I feel 20ga slugs ballistically superior to 12ga

I bought a Beretta Extrema (sp) to have a 1 gun2 barreled do it all shotgun. Well who would have thought it would take the better part of 3 years to get a shot barrel. It has a cantilever scope base on the slug barrel. That is not working this year, so I went back to my marlin 512 slug master with/leupold shotgun scope. I had so much fun trying to get the berretta shooting 3 boxes plus. 2 more boxes for the marlin. I telling you 12 Ga. hot slugs is not the way to go.
