Good afternoon and Congratulations 43PU !
Always good to read that another US Military Rifle is being used afield. Heavy for caliber lead bullets are tough to beat on soft bodies.
Another corn cruncher will do good duty.

Atta boy! we're not allowed to use semi-auto rifles for hunting here in PA, so I'm doubly jealous.

What is the reasoning behind that law? You folk have a bunch of libtards infecting the stste? Crazy! Been years since I got one with the garand.

I have no clue, it's been this way for as long as I've been hunting (since '82). The really dumb thing is you can use a semi-auto shotgun, plugged to 3 shots total, for hunting small game or birds, but a Marlin 60 or Ruger 10/22 for squirrel is a no go.

that's a pretty good load.
that boolit weight and speed has gotta be hauling some momentum.

I'm guessing your load will cycle the action on the Garand OK? Any issues with the gas port getting plugged up?

Dang, ain't gonna eat right up to the boolit hole on that one.

Any idea of the velocity?

Velocity should be around 1800-1950 i have not chronyed it yet, if i get time i will set mine up and try it today all i know is it was DRT i mean it landed on its elbows and did not move, I think its the best DRT I have ever seen!!

Yes it cycles more than OK it threw one of my empties out of the bind and I never did find it :violin: but at least I got some more meat in the freezer. No leading on the Piston yet and I have fired 565 rounds this month of this load to make sure I was capable of doing a humane kill. my groups average around 3-4 inches just sitting on a chair off hand shooting at 100 yards, on paper on a rest its around 2 inches

I use the same bullet at .311", over 34.0 grn H4895. Gets 2,050fps, 2moa at 100yds. 2 clicks up, 1 right from 150grn service load sight setting!
Glad to see the damage bullet did!
Now you got me thinking about hunting w/mine (got two!, ones a "match" gun I inherited from my brother, other is a CMP "Special" w/new barrel and wood refinished, I shoot in Garand matches.)
just when I'm getting ready for a deer/pig hunt starting Sunday-Wednesday, and had planned to take the Marlin .35 w/220 grn FNGC!!!

re: leading/function, good alloy, lube, you won't get leading. I worked up my load to just barely reliably function and not over drive the bullet.
34.0 grn IMR4064 sounds just right!

Reasoning is a large number of hunters here in PA are ignorant and stuck in the past. There is currently 2 bills waiting to be voted on at the state level to allow semi autos for the rest of the hunting. Hopefully we will finally step into the 20th century.

Sounds good. I am on the list for the Mihec 30 heavy sil mold which I figured would make a good hunting bullet for my 30-06.

My rifle likes the RCBS 200 silhouette and 38 grains of IMR-4831.

Looks like that load got the job done!

I don't mind the law. There is no reason you need one for hunting here. But I understand why people want to use them. Where I live the woods are densely populated come rifle season. You will literally see an orange vest every 50 yards or so. This is not an exaggeration by any stretch.

Combine the amount of people in the woods w/ the fact that they don't practice and I'm leary of allowing them to use a semiauto. As it is now you hear a crazy amount of follow up shots. I see both sides of the argument. I also like no Sunday hunting even though it prevents me from hunting. Not all the old laws need to be changed for the sake of progress.
