Shot this brute today, Nov 11 2015 with my kit build Lyman GPR .54 cal.
Lee .535 cast rb
80grs Goex FFFG
Ox-Yoke .015 lubed patch

My hunting mate and I took our quads out to a spot that a truck would'nt be able to get into.
I found a rub, parked my quad in the bushes and followed the path next to the rub in around 15:00 this afternoon and found a high spot over looking some trails. I did some grunting and rattling on and off every 20 min then waited, at around 16:42 I could hear some movement thru the light crust of snow on the ground and soon enough this guy walks below me at approx 40yds, unaware of my presence. I line up my sights, give a "Bahhh", he stops and "BOOM" he drops. I quickly reload and when he lifts his head I touch off another shot just behind his ear.
I finally put some blood on my GPR I built in July 2009 and man did it ever feel good http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/images/smilies/grin.gif
By the looks of the entry wound on both shots there was no exit, so my pure lead hand cast round balls must've flattened out pretty good. I'll post some pics if I recover any lead ;)

He was probably dead after the first one, he just didn't realize it at first.

Wow! Two nice bucks for you in just a few days, maybe I need to move to Canada, LOL!

Neat rifle, I have killed a lot of deer with muzzle loaders, but have always used conicals or saboted pistol bullets (all of which I cast, by the way). Might have to give the RB a try soon.

That's excellent! Nice buck and I like the way you embellished your rifle's stock. Be sure to give an update upon autopsy.

It's OK, you can level with us. Everyone knows that roundballs will just bounce off. What did you really shoot him with?

Nice! :-):-)

Haha, Yeah I know. 2 bucks in a week lol. Now the work begins. My hunting mate and I de-boned buck #1, made steaks and burger and vacuum sealed it all. Took about 5 hrs. One more to go this Saturday. It shouldn't take as long as my mate took the other half. I found the .535 rb, It was lodged in the spine and I accidentally cut it in half with the saws-all and buck#1 I found two more buckshot so a total of 6.
Thanks again.http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i375/Jamie_MG/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20151112_223255_zpsgssf9fd9.jpg (http://s1090.photobucket.com/user/Jamie_MG/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20151112_223255_zpsgssf9fd9.jpg.html)

Huntsman,

Were the buckshot pellets flattened out?

Huntsman,

Were the buckshot pellets flattened out?

The 4 that were recovered from the hide were round. The two that hit bone in the leg deformed.

Thank you SWheeler!
