I couldn't find a forum for jacketed bullets or "J-words", so here I am.

Does anybody know if these bullets are still in production? Lots of places list them, but they're all "out of stock". Winchester WB44ST210 Silvertip hollowpoints. My .44 magnum Trapper seems to like them, I'd like to get another 100.

Looks like they have discontinued by Winchester!

Did you find that info somewhere? That's a shame, I used one on a mule deer and it was VERY effective.

The Winchester reloading component web page contains a bunch of zero's when you get to .44's:

I was told that Winchester was phasing out the Silvertip bullets and are replacing them with the Platinum Tip bullets. Also, the 44 mag Platinum Tip bullets are not cannelured and are extremely hard. I bought a special cannelure tool from ChuckBuster to be able to cannelure the 500 mag Platinum tip bullets.

Bonz,

How are you getting the Platinum components? They are not listed on Winchesters site yet?

rondog,
I have some Hornady 200gr. HP. Would those be a good replacement?

I've been buying them on GunBroker.com I bought a bunch of .500 S&W Mag, which forced me to buy a better cannelure tool from ChuckBuster

Thanks Swamp! I'm not concerned yet. I'm just trying to find bullets my rifle likes, and it seems to like the Silvertips. Just rolled up another 20 for a test run.

Figures, I find something good and it gets discontinued.....

But I don't know, 240gr Hornady XTP's look pretty good, at almost half the price.....

from what I read, for pistol bullets, the Silvertip bullets are aluminum plated and the Platinum tip bullets are nickel plated

You could also buy a swaging set for .44 from BTSniper and make your own. I make my 240gr .44 bullets out of .40 S&W brass
