I have been wanting one of these for a very long time. I had only seen pictures of them, never a real one, so when my son found this one he grabbed it for me.152976 My question is, does anyone have any experience with this gun in regard to its strength and durability? I am making up some loads for it now and I am familiar with the 38 S&W. I have been loading it for my Regulation Police, but not the H&R. I want the best performing load for it I can make with my 158 grain boolit, but dont want to shoot this gun loose.

Sorry, no info, but that's a sweet piece?

What little I have read about them is that they are stronger than most top breaks, perhaps on the order of a Webley or Enfield. It should be able to handle a 158 grain slug at 750 fps, which is standard .38 Special power level. The top latch is the weak point of this design. H&R was still marketing these things to security companies in the 1960's, and at least one large police department in Canada issued them side by side with war surplus Webleys and Enfields.

Absolutely no more than 2.3 grains of Bullseye (Lyman's 4th edition max), and I'd personally run a little bit lighter than that, with your 158 grain bullets. The pin that holds the stirrup is none too sturdy and will bend if subjected to a steady diet of 38 special loads. Those guns were designed for a 146 grain bullet at a nominal 745 fps. I doubt that any factory ammo made since the Second World War came within 50 fps of that. But that is what you should strive to duplicate.

I have a 1953 H&R "Sportsman" 22LR 9 shot.
Um, 926 is a .22 WRF nine-shot revolver
H&R model 925 (.38 cal. revolver)
Now I could be wrong, been before and will be again.

My H&R Model 926 is a 9 shot 22 rimfire. The thing I like about it is the hand ejection, it doesn't eject just by braking it open, I have to push the ejector rod purposely. Really, really nice revolver.

The 926 comes in 22 and 38 cal. I have some test rounds loaded up and cant wait to get some across my crony. I wish I had a better place to shoot.
