Yes - I know the H & R Classic Carbine is no longer made. I have run across one - never shot - new in box. The price is $430. What say you on this price - too high? I don't know what they sold for originally. And, since they are no longer made . . .

I looked on GB and didn't find any to compare . . . .

I know from what reading I've done on them that most owners like them. I have a H & R .357 Handi Rifle that I really like. I've added 45 Colt to my reloading and load only cast (the traditional 454-190 RNFP) with smokeless and BP. I'm thinking that the 45 Colt Classic Carbine might be kind of fun for BP shooting - just not sure on what the value is on one that is NIB?

And no . . . I'm not interested in a lever gun in 45 Colt. I mainly "plink" now (50 yards ad less) and a single shot works just fine . . . shoot slow and don't go through a pile of ammo all at once . . . sort of stretch the range session out with a single shot! :-)

Thanks for any input on price or the rfle itself.

If you find one NIB for that, I would grab it! There will never be any more. LOVE mine!

I don't try for buffalo loads, just shoot my normal cowboy loads to plink.

That is a tough choice. I am not sure if I had the chance if I would spend that much. 400$ yes, and in fact you could probably sell it for up to 500$, so if you have the bug go ahead. It can ony go up from here.

You nailed it. Now that they are done, prices will go up Up UP!!

To OP, I wouldn't pay $430..but then I don't have $430. I'm still back in the $300 zone. I don't know what the colt carbine sold for new but I'd bet it wasn't much over $350.

I bought one for my Dad and n one for my son when they were on sale at CDNN a couple years back. They were $230 each plus transfer and I got consecutive serial numbers. Point is that if you see something you want that isn't coming around again, get it or regret it.

when they where drying up they were going for about $369. & change and that was a few years ago. so $430.00 is a fair price for said item. and they shoot great. I have a 38-55 classic new in box and I was offered close to $500.00 for it just a few weeks ago. they are only going to go up in price. I say Jump On it.

.

Although YMMV - I wouldn't pay $400 for any H&R/NEF break-open, either.

Thanks all . . . I greatly appreciate the information and input. Went and looked at it and it was as represented but I just have a hard time parting with that much for a H & R even though they are out of production. Yea . . I know . . I'll probably "regret" it at some point but wouldn't be the first time I've passed on a gun and then wished I'd gotten it. At this point, I think I'm still going to keep looking and see if I can't find a rolling block or similar. I'm sure the H & R will go up in value as time goes by but at my age, it would be one less thing my wife would have to deal with if I kick the bucket. :-)

Thanks again for the info and input!

Original List price on the .45 Colt Classic Carbine was $405 as memory serves. I got mine on sale as they were closing them out at Davidson's for a bit less. I did pay $405 for the .45-70 Buffalo Classic I owned. I've since traded that for an Ultra rare 7x64 Brenneke which I'm making into a long range hunter. ;) $430 seems like a lot, but if you decide you want to put regular stocks on it, you can sell the walnut for $150 or so. The walnut look nice, but unless you cut them off flat and add a kick pad, they really hurt if it goes off with one of those points intercepting flesh...

This is my .45 colt Blackhawk and Carbine special. Pretty nice combo. ;)

Don't forget that breech loading carbines also like bore diameter boolits with lots of black.
Now that's some fun shooting!
