MN whitetail doe (yearling by my guess, not a fawn), saw 3 all outta range or off the property, then at 1610 hrs she snuck up at my 12 o'clock to about 50 yard. H&R rifled 12g connects again (Win 1350fps sabot 1oz BRI slug). Hit high lung at downward angle, she was quartering away to the right after she noticed me and was rethinking her route (no hurry just meandering to go around me). Slug slipped under the loin, breaking the tops of 4 ribs and clipping the spine and the tops of both lungs before exiting out the left mid ribs- no exit hole in the hide! So I expect to recover that slug when I get to boning the quarters out tomorrow after work. She dropped at the shot and pawed with forelegs for maybe 30 seconds before expiring. No tracking, but a yatch of a drag- I'd come in wet-foot down a creek since the thickets were so nasty.

Woke up this morning and had fried eggs and tenderloin medallions (fried in butter with a bit o seasoning salt) on toast! That's a deer camp meal to remember!

Nice ! Yearlings are good eating, for sure.... I prefer hunting yearlings or does over bucks. Antlers aren't a priority for me--not to say that I wouldn't bust a monster buck if the opportunity presented, but I hunt for meat and you can't eat antlers.

Greetings and Congratulations also !!
Thank you for posting this and the fine photo. That slug must be of a soft lead to not exit.

Nice deer. really surprised the slug didn't exit. Put it sounds like it dumped it all on the deer.

That's what I call a "peel and eat". It's small enough to peel the hide and throw the whole thing on the grill.

Ah, the smell of a campfire, coffee cooking, and backstraps in the skillet...sounds like heaven to me. Congrats. Oh by the way, save some for the family. Haha.

DANG!!! We have a month before we can enjoy 'Deer Camp'!! Too short and doesn't come around often enough. Wall tents, blackpowder, woodsmoke, and a DAMN FINE time with friends! I'll be day dreaming today. Flyer

Recovered the slug! Still haven't weighed it... I cut down an unfired Sabot slug for comparison...

Found midway through off-side shoulder
