My LGS has two single sixes. Both LR only and both three screws. Ones all steel and one has aluminum grip frame and cylinder. Which is worth more in equal condition? I like the steel better. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!!

I don't know which one is more valuable.

I'd say that if you like steel better buy the steel one, even if the other is more valuable. Are you buying it for yourself, or for the guy that buys it after you die?

I prefer the steel but if the other is rare Ill pick it up first. Then keep looking for a shooter

If you don't mind me asking what are they charging you for each? I have a large collection of 3 screw .22's; all are unconverted to the safety bar.
So they are original

Neither is different from the other, in either value or rarity (only in personal preference) - ALCOA (who had been making Ruger's XR-3 & XR-3RED gripframes) closed their aluminum alloy casting department in 1962, after which the Ruger-owned Pine Tree Castings took over Ruger's gripframe casting in steel (Pine Tree made only steel castings).

Buy whichever floats your boat.

Thanks Pietro!!! Exactly what I was wondering. JW, how many revolvers does it take to consider a collection large?

I've never heard of an aluminum cylinder single six. An all steel one isnt rare, but desirable. If im not mistaken, they made aluminum framed single sixes a few years.

Yes the aluminum cylinder seamed odd to me also. I didnt know if it was after market. It really looked cheesy with the paint chipping off.

The lightweight is a fairly rare and collectible SingleSix. The only Old model/three screw Ruger SA's with a factory steel gripframe were the Super Blackhawks.
