I was asked to look at a Century L1A1 that came from the estate of bubba. From what I can tell, it is a newly made receiver that Century Arms built up using British inch pattern parts. There are British broad arrows and a jumble of numbers stamped on a bunch of the parts.I went into the rifle looking at fixing the poorly mounted scope (crooked, not enough eye relief, epoxy on bases). What I found was the hammer didn't want to stay cocked when you let the bolt slam shut. The super light trigger pull should have been a tip off. I pulled the fire control and no surprise- bubba had done a trigger job as well as mount a scope. The hammer and sear were dremeled beyond any resemblance to square and sharp sear/ hammer hook geometry. Yes they are REALLY BRIGHT and SHINY, but that doesn't do much good if the hammer won't stay cocked.http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/jkdubois724/20151107_181323.jpg (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/jkdubois724/media/20151107_181323.jpg.html)The hammer and sear are beyond hope. They are so rounded over and out of square that I can't save them. I started looking for replacement parts, but it seems that inch pattern fire control parts are not common like metric parts.Any FAL experts here who know that I definitely need inch hammer and sear for a Century L1A1? If so, can anyone point me to a reasonable source for a replacement hammer and sear?

Mark at Arizona Response Systems has a good selection of L1A1 fire control parts.

Numrich is showing L1A1 fire control parts in stock.

Also try the FAL Files Marketplace. There is no better place to find FAL/L1A1 parts!

As Mr. Clark told Guy Wayne, You can't build a shot gun stock. Why not he says , You made one. Well guy you're favorite two tools are, " Are a Sledge hammer and a cutting torch". You can't use either one to make a Shotgun stock........!

There's alot of people who should not be allowed to own tools, its odd we say cavemen were dumb, when compared to many now adays they were pretty smart.

I picked up a S&W 1917 recently from a friend. A mutual friend had done some work to it. The one friend had asked if the cylinder is supposed to spin with the hammer down, no pretty sure its not. I got it and every screw was finger loose. I know the one friend who is a 'gunsmith' had it apart to duracoat it. So he would have been the one to leave all the screws loose. He was also the one who duracoated the inside of the gun, so all had to be cleaned out for it to work right. The same 'gunsmith' has been bedding a rifle for going on a year now. Actually saw him work on it once a couple months ago, but its still on the workbench. He builds ARs for people, guess its not really that hard to do where they come out okay. But I wouldn't let him work on any of my guns, part of it is because I know it would take him forever to do it. Then get mad if you ask about it.

Did Bubba want a full auto?
I hate to think what Babba was thinkin

I think if you had a full 20 round mag loaded in that FAL and let the bolt slam forward it may just empty real fast. Can you imagine Bubba at the range; he lets the charging handle slam forward on a full 20 rd mag and a big loud BBBBEEEEERRRRRPPP

I'm not sure if that would happen?

BTW..... here is a good review by Jerry Miculek on FALs also his shooting skills

Apparently at one time some were doing a full auto conversion that way. Tho no semi auto anymore. Everything I have read says theres a reason it was not really an option on the FAL, that it was not controllable at all that way, same reason they took it out of the M14. Makes you wonder the difference between them and the G3 series. Those are a dream to shoot on auto.

I worked with a guy, everybody called him the 'hammer'. That was his philosophy, if it doesn't fit, your not using a big enough hammer.
