Possibly these http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/DisplayBlock~bid~5603~gid~~source~gallerydefault.a sp but they would need to be looked at in person by a mushroom expert. TX does have a mushroom society so maybe someone local to you who could help ID them. If they are Boletus appendiculatus they are an edible species but as I said, get a LOCAL expert to ID them! Mushroom hunting can be deadly to a beginner! I stick to morels that are easy to ID!

There are old mushroom hunters. And there are brave mushroom hunters. BUT, there are NO brave, old mushroom hunters.

Check under the cap. If there are pores and not gills, it is either a bolete or its relative a slippery jack. From the pic it looks like one of those. Several of the bolete species are among the most sought after delicacies in the world but there are a very few that are poisonous. From the picture it looks like yours stain blue when touched or bruised which often means they are edible but not great tasting. Can't tell you more without it sitting in front of me with my books in hand. Are they growing under a tree - if yes, you can often tell what kind they are. Drop me a PM with more info if you want me to hit the books but if it has those pores under the cap you can "google" Texas and boletes and follow that trail.

I warned my youngest growing up to NOT hit them with a stick or kick them or other type stuff as partials or spray from the "Death Angels" that grew quite well in our front yard was extremely deadly....!
